New to this cellphone business and all, I was wondering if cell phones could use area codes other then the one's within their region?

Most cell companies will allow you to get a phone with a number from any area code within the country. When you are outside of the 'local' area you will be charged long distance though.

You will just need to give your service provider the physical address out of that region which you want your number. Depending on which provider you have, it might not be free. T-Mobile is charging a $17 fee for changing your number.

You can change your number free with a police report. If not it will cost 25$. You can have a different area code although you will be charged long distance if you are outside the local calling area of the area code, even if the person that is calling you is standing right beside you. Outgoing calls are local.
