    About 6 months ago I got rid of my data plan for my Iphone. The only problem is that - says the Fido customer support workers - is that the Iphone will automatically try to connect to Wifi/3G to try to update certain apps and aspects of the phone resulting in this annoying text msg from Fido that says, in short that your phone is trying to access something that requires a data plan, which then goes to give you the option to purchase one. That being said you can still access wifi that you have permission to, i.e. your home hub.

    The problem I have with this is that if you try to access the internet and for whatever reason your phone doesn't access your own wifi you get prompted with a msg saying "please purchase a data plan for 1 day, a week or a month," so the text is pointless. I really wouldn't have a problem with this if I wasn't recieving this text a couple times every other day or so at times like 2-5am when I'm sleeping. I can't really turn off my sound because I use the phones alarm clock.

    I phoned Fido and they said i'm **** out of luck and that I either have to purchase a data plan or they could stop the text but ALSO stop the warning screen meaning that were I to access the internet without knowing I was on 3g I'd have to pay accordingly - up to $3 a day... that can add up quickly. Up selling bs 101.

    Fido was useless as hell. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so how did you solve it?

    Go in your Network Settings, Turn off the Enable 3G & the Cellular Data Switches.
