Cingular has no customer service. They are not empowered to do anything but
make excuses. They do not record complaints or suggestions. My bill, as
seen on the internet, has an adding error in their favor. She would or
record a complaint. They charges me $9 pro-rata for 4 hours of service (I
activated my phone about 8PM one night) and never made a call.
The internet site loops to no where (try to find out how to send an e-mail).
Back to Verizon where they have empowered customer service. Unfortunately
in my area Cingular has better coverage but I'll give that up.

I work for a Cinguar authorized dealer, and I can tell you that I speak to customer service reps. all day long. Some of them I speak too are uneducated and make excuses for certain customer problems. But others are extremely helpful, and go out of their way to help fix a customer's problem. It's all about who you speak with, and that would apply to Verizon Wireless too.Scott

In two years that I have been with cingular, I have found customer
service to be very helpful and polite in my many encounters.

I agree with Stephen. I find Cingular's customer service as good as any of
the competitors'. Online statement would not show anything but call detail
after just one week of service.

Cingular customer service is infinitely better than SprintPCS, but
sometimes you need to escalate a call to adjust a bill. With SprintPCS
they often won't escalate.

I have been with Cingular for 5 years or more and all but one time their
customer service was helpful, resourceful and empowered.

I've had Cingular for over 5 years. I've found their CS to be helpful. Not
saying this happened; but you might want to look at your tone during the
call. When people start get demanding, I start turning off.

Re: Avoid Cingular: cancelled service in 1 week
I find service at Cing blows away Nextel .
The people are very nice but many just are not trained well.
After many many call backs you will finally find one who can solve the
issue.
Many times even second level techs do not have the fix.
The Nextel folks are very mean and the top levels can not solve problems.
Bottom line Cing beats Sprint and Nextel and we are glad we switched.

Re: Avoid Cingular: cancelled service in 1 week
Hi:
To the contrary in the past 3 months that we have been with Cingular I
have
found the customer service people to be very helpful.
We have 4 phones on a family plan (since Dec.24). I have changed the plan
mid month, and added features several times. All this as my family
determines exactly what our needs are.
Now, Cingular DOES have a major billing issue and I pointed this out a few
weeks ago online. We changed plans mid-month and that caused ALL SORTS of
incorrect billing to happen. In fact I was overbilled nearly $100. CHECK
YOU BILL very carefully.

Verizon Wireless,
the second-largest cellular carrier,
had the lowest rate of complaints,
1.4 per 100,000 customers.

Cingular Tops Cell Phone Complaint List
March 29, 2005
Cingular Wireless,
which acquired AT&T Wireless last October,
had the highest rate of complaints filed
with the Federal Communications Commission
during the last quarter of 2004,
The Wall Street Journal reported.
Cingular,
which now serves more
than 50 million customers,
generated 4.6 complaints
per 100,000 customers,
followed by T-Mobile USA with
4.3 and Sprint with 3.6. Nextel,
which plans to merge with Sprint,
generated 2.3 complaints per customer
and Verizon Wireless,
the second-largest cellular carrier,
had the lowest rate of complaints,
1.4 per 100,000 customers.
The Journal filed a Freedom of Information
Act request to obtain the complaint figures
from the FCC.
The commission provided the total
complaint figures; the Journal
calculated the complaint rate.
ConsumerAffairs.Com Cell Phone Complaints

Complaints
Cingular/AT&T

Sprint

T-Mobile

Verizon

Complaints filed with ConsumerAffairs.Com
in the last 12 months -- raw numbers,
not weighted to reflect market share.
Complaints filed with ConsumerAffairs.Com
for the last 12 months also show a much higher
number of complaints for Cingular and AT&T Wireless --
534,
more than twice as many as
second-place Sprint's 216,
as shown in the table to the right.
Mergers of telecommunications units
are always troublesome for customers,
although Cingular insists its merger
with AT&T Wireless has been relatively
trouble-free.
But consumers are less than pleased with
cell phone service in general.
Consumers Union said cell phone
complaints were up nearly 38 percent in
2004 compared with the year before.
The increase was greater than the
14 percent growth in subscribers.
Consumers Union noted that cell phone
service has a lower level of overall
customer satisfaction than services
such as hotels, retail outlets and insurance.
Consumers complain mostly about dropped calls,
billing problems and spotty coverage.

Re: Avoid Cingular: cancelled service in 1 week
I can say i have had cingular for the past four days... and I had to
call them twice.. Once was to get the 12% discount off my bill via an
agreement witht he company I work for, and they said I had to go to a
store and show a paystub or work ID.. and that they noted the
information on my account..
and today with a "massive" network outage in the Virginia area.. I do
know I have seen issues very differant.. I was able to ge service all
over the building I work in, and today I cant get squat.. and the call
to the 800's #s come up and state there is a network problem in my
coverage area.
It would be nice they give me a credit of $1.29 for the day i was
unable to make or receive calls.

If you call up after about an hour online and 3 escalations, maybe you'd
get.
