I've finally decided to upgrade our phones and went to the Cingular web
site. When I follow the links to upgrade I get the following message:
"Cannot Complete Online
There was a problem with your request.
P1011: Unfortunately, we are unable to complete your transaction via our
website. Please contact Customer Service at 1-888-867-4384 for assistance."
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? This has been happening
for the past two days, so if it's a Cingular web site problem I'm not very
impressed by the fact that they haven't fixed it in two days.
If I had wanted to talk to customer service I would have called there in the
first place instead of going to the web. I really hate the hassle of trying
to talk to there customer service on the phone! I've been a Cingular
customer for almost five years but I'm seriously considering switching if
they can't do better than this.
TIA,

Re: Can't upgrade phones on Cingular web site
You might CS and ask them the question. I have found CS to be friendly and
knowledgeable more than 50% of the time and I can't imagine they are any
worse than VZ or any other competitor. They are only human ... and just
like the rest of us in our jobs some days are better than others.

It also depends on their instructions from management.

Please elaborate- I'm curious to see which conspiracy theory you are using
these days.

When Cingular had the near National Outage, reps were given spin to tell
folks.
Then Sprint had their own outage:

Re: Can't upgrade phones on Cingular web site
If you are a former AT&T customer, they do not allow phone upgrades.
I just "upgraded" through an eBay purchase, and I am happy with the
purchase;
just be careful of the seller, and look at their history, and I would
suggest only getting a phone that includes the charging cable (otherwise you
have to wonder if it is stolen or "found").
Good luck.

Re: Can't upgrade phones on Cingular web site
I bit the bullet and called the number that the web site gave me. I have
to admit that I was pleasantly surprised at how fast I got through and how
helpful they were. Turns out that they are experiencing difficulties with
their web site and have been for the past week or so. They told me that
some people have been able to use the web to upgrade phones and services and
some haven't and they don't know why. Bottom line was that the CS rep was
authorized to give the same deals to people who call in as those people
would have been able to get on the web. BTW, I'm not a former AT&T
customer--been with Cingular for about five years.
