Is it possible to edit Word and Excel documents on this smartphone? Or
can these documents only be viewed without editing?

Hi,
Microsoft does not provide a way to edit files on the Smartphone version of
the Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. Only Pocket PCs (units with touch screens) can
do so.

You can purchase a 3rd party application called P-Tab to edit MS Excel files
on the smart phone. I started researching this when my boss purchased a
Motorola Q smartphone earlier this year ... but I haven't found a MS-Word
editor yet.
