    I have a new Sony-Ericsson Z300a, which is one of the pay-as-you-go GoPhone
    units, but it is as full-featured as any other mid-level phone. Anyway, it
    has support on it for selecting a picture as a background, associating a
    picture with an address book entry, etc. It says you can store other
    pictures on it, and it supports JPEG, GIF and other standard formats.

    So is there any way for me to get my own pictures on it (i.e., in a MMS
    message) other than from another phone (and then how would I get a picture
    on that phone)? What I'd like to do is crop and resize photos on my PC to
    the correct dimension and then transfer them to my phone.

    Is there any way to do this without having to sign up for some sort of
    "service" that charges by the month?

    Sure -- just pay by the message, 25 cents each as I recall. For how to
    send these MMS messages, see email to messaging info in the Cingular FAQ
    (link below).

    I'd like a bit more explanation from your statement above.

    Have you found a way to generate a query to Wikipedia via an email?

    A Sun Microsystems product manger once figured out a way to use the vacation
    option of SunOS email to generate daily product updates. If there is a email
    query for Wiki, I'd sure like to know.

    Thanks- Thurman

    Not an easy one (AFAIK), but you can query Google and Yahoo (and others)
    by SMS.
    * <http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/sms/>
    * <http://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000147.html>

    For Wikipedia, I use the browser in my handset.

    Thanks for the reply, John. Actually I found a cheaper way to do it that
    works well. I went to the SonyEriccson web site and set up a free user
    account there that lets me upload photos from my PC. Then I can use the
    browser to go to their WAP address, log in, and download the photos to the
    phone for just pennies apiece. Works great!

    There are several fee WAP hosting websites.
    See the Cingular FAQ (link below).
