Used a GAIT Nokia 6340i while in Alberta and British Columbia.

The GSM coverage there was great, much better than in California. But
when I had been away from any coverage (like on a ferry) and got back to
coverage after 12 hours, the voiemail sign came on, and the message says
that I had 31 voice mail messages, even though I really only had one.

If I did not retrieve the voicemail, the messages kept coming and
    coming.

When I tried to retrieve the voicemail, I could not. The phone voice
said that I must call using my PCS phone, even though I was doing this
of course. The only way I could retrieve it was to turn my phone off and
call my number from another phone.

Anyone else had this happen, what is the fix?

Also used the GAIT phone in Wyoming/Montana/Idaho/Washington/Oregon,
    worked really good!
The coverage in the national parks like Yellowstone was surprisingly
good, much better than another Verizon AC phone we had.

Found out for travelling that this GAIT phone is soooo much better than
Verizon's AC. Verizon seemed to use analogue in Canada a LOT, so the
    battery died quick.

How were you accessing your voicemail? If you use shortcuts (like *89
in Florida, for instance), they will probably not work. You probably
needed to call your phone number, press * and then your 4 digit access
code. That's what I have to do while roaming in North Dakota (I'm on a
TDMA systems though). My voicemail indicator and text messaging
capabilities don't work at all here, but that's because it's a "roaming
only" network, so there are a lot of bugs.

I used the default access number like 323 555 1234, from my cell phone it
    just hung up on me.
It worked fine in the US though.
