Hi,
I recently brought an unlocked t68m to Boston after purchasing it in
Europe and using it on a carrier over there. I have an old Omnipoint
sim-card and am a T-mob customer. I used the t68m with a European
provider, as well as T-Mobile in roaming and it worked fine.
However, when I landed in Boston, although the phone would find the
carrier (with T-Mob sim card) I couldn't make calls. I would get three
beeps and the call would drop. Occassionally, I would get "No Access"
errors.
Taking my T-Mob sim card and putting it into another phone (Nokia 3390
or 6610), and everything worked fine. Putting my European carriers sim
card into the t68m while in roaming, in Boston, on AT&T network it
worked fine too. But it doesn't work with my T-Mobile card.
I called T-Mobile and they didn't know what it was, they told me to
replace my sim card, which I did and it still doesn't work. I also
tried with my friends T-Mobile card, same problem!
The same problem persisted on the T-mobile network in DC as well.
But it worked fine in Europe.
Does anyone know what is going on and what can I do to solve this
problem?
Thanks,
George B,

I had a similar situation recently. A completely unblocked
T68i in Alabama wouldn't work on T-mobile but worked fine in
the UK. I think US T-mobile are only allowing their known
customers' phones to work. GSM is wasted on them.

I think phones can be "blacklisted" if they're reported stolen, destroyed,
etc... That would make sense if T-Mob USA has it blacklisted.

If this is true it's news. I used to activate accounts for customers that
already had non-T-Mobile equipment.

T-Mobile doesn't block all foreign IMEIs - in my experience they don't
block any. Both my girlfriend and myself use phones that were
purchased outside of T-Mobile. Neither model of phone is available
from T-Mobile - Ericsson T39m and SonyEricsson P800. I know other
people using various imported phones without a problem as well.

Re: t68m doesn't work on T-mobile
Sorry, should be more clear. If a handset were, say, stolen - it *could* be
blacklisted by a carrier (say, T-Mob USA) - I'm not saying (NOT saying)
that t-mob blacklists all non-t-mob phones.. I'm not aware of them
blacklisting any phones, but if they did - it would behave exactly as this
is being described - the HLR simply wouldn't let it fly.

ehhh... Maybe the phone wasn't finger printed nor photographed upon
entry into the US.
