Hi -
My wife and I just got T610s. For some reason everytime I switch mine
on I get a text box that says "How are you?" It's not a theme, a
start-up or a wallpaper - I have set these - but the darned "How are
you?" Pops up just after the start-up image appears and stays for
10secs or so.
Doesn't happen on my wife's phone...
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this message? Or even how to
replace it with my company name?
Much appreciatio if you can help.

Re: T610 annoying screen message! Help?
Sounds like the user greeting is turned on...............look in the manual
for greeting, not sure , it could be under settings, display etc etc

Let me guess, it's a Vodafone SIM?

Is hers on Voda?

Not much you can do about it if you want to stay on Voda. You could try
complaining directly to Vodafone, but whether they will do anything about it
or not seems to be pot luck.
If you were on Orange you'd find that it would pop up with Welcome To
Orange. It's just another way the networks have found to annoy their paying
cutomers.

Re: T610 annoying screen message! Help?
Nope - that didn't do it. The "greeting" in the manual refers to the
start-up picture and there's nothing in that menu that affects this
text box. Any other ideas? I'm beginning to hate it in a murderous,
Edgar Allen Poe sort of way...

Re: T610 annoying screen message! Help?
Aha! you're right, it is a Vodafone sim, and a new one, whereas my
wife's is from her old phone. Who do they think would want a mobile
phone asking them how they are? Next time I'm in the vicinity I'll
call into where I purchased it and see what they say.
Thanks for that. I'll stop trying to figure it out now!

The shop won't/can't do anything. You'll have to go through customer
services.

Re: T610 annoying screen message! Help?
Correct. Just spoke to Vodafone customer services, after enduring
their interminable menu system. Basically it can't be changed. Nothing
they can do about it. It's only about 5 seconds long. The fact that
it's moronic and probably even irritating to the 12 year old it's
designed for wasn't a factor in it's inclusion in the sim. Oh well.
It'll continue to annoy me every time I turn the thing on, but at
least it doesn't say "Have a nice day."
Thanks for your advice.

Change the screensaver image under Settings->Display and you won't see it
again

They can change it by sending you a new SIM without the SIM message on it.
The trick is getting them to actually do it. They don't like it, but it can
be done.

Re: T610 annoying screen message! Help?
That would be a trick indeed. I suggested that when speaking to
customer service and they said impossible - ALL vodafone sims have it
.. And if ever I have to suffer their customer interface menu again I
could end up cancelling my account in frustration - and that would
probably be a whole lot more anxiety... no, I'll leave it and just
tell as many people about it as possible. Like most large
organisations they'll ignore complaints and deny responsibility and
then sneak through a replacement message that looks almost
professional (unlike :How are you?) - or just go back to no message at
all. My wife's T610 has a very pleasant opening sequence. Buterflies
and skies - almost relaxing... sigh...
Again - thanks for all your help.
mario
P.S. it's definitely not a screen saver issue.
