Please can someone tell me the optimum settings to use when converting AMR
files recorded on my T610 to MP3 files? For instance, what should I set the
    bitrate and frequency settings to?

AMR is the compressed sound format the SE use to record sound files to
    - smaller than mp3

.... and NO it isn't - use Bluetooth to transfer the files off to your
PC , then "Mobile AMR Converter" (miksoft) to convert to wav - then
use someting like blandenc to convert to mp3... simple!

The Mobile AMR converter is using Sony Ericsson AMR converter to convert
AMR files (Adaptive Multi-Rate Codec, *.amr) to wave files (*.wav) and
vice-versa in a user-friendly way. Also, it can save several wave files
into one SP file and vice-versa. The program has a very easy-to-use and
simple GUI (Graphical User Interface) that helps even the most amateur
    user.

Then you can convert from wave to mp3.

Not sure about amr->wav conversion, but SE AMR converter does a lousy job on
wav->amr conversion. I tried Nokia Multimedia Converter, it's much easier to
use (no resampling needed, accepts MP3s etc), and produces way better
sounding AMRs. I'd guess it will do a better job on amr->mp3 conversion as
    well.
