Noticed today when composing SMSs using my CHA-10 Chatboard with my
T39m, that the apostrophe character the chatboard generates isn't the
same as the one generated when using the phone's keypad. It's slanted
to the right, whereas the original character is straight up.
One curious side-effect of this slanted apostrophe is a reduction in
the number of characters I have to play with in the SMS -- certainly
not the full 160. It's as if it's being deployed as a picture element.
Has anyone experienced this too? I notice the same symptoms, in fact,
when I use *any* of the special characters on the chatboard (the white
row above the actual keys). Is there a workaround (other than not
using apostrophes of course!).
Cheers,
Stu C

And indeed, the resultant SMS isn't readable on some other manufacturer's
phones I've discovered!
Some users on other forums report the same problem when using the CHA-10
with the T68 too.
E-mail to Sony Ericsson "Support" about this has been ignored.
I've come to the conclusion that this "Chatboard" is a complete waste of
time, at least when used on the T39. The claim at www.sonyericsson.com that
the CHA-10 is 'compatible' with the phone is questionable. As well as the
problem outlined above, there are these issues:
> Characters are *very* slow to appear on the phone's screen once typed in
(this has also been reported on the T68). Makes correcting typos almost
impossible.
> No access to special characters like line feed and smilies :-(
> www.ericsson.com/chatboard site (which some features of the CHA-10 relied
upon) no longer operational.
> The auto shift feature in the SMS editor is lost.
