    Can anyone please advise me?
I have recently changed my mobile from an Ericsson T28 World to a new
Ericsson T610 (lovely phone). Both were purchased through my mobile
contract provider (O2) and were therefore at a subsidised price.
I'd like to use my old phone with prepay sim cards whilst in Europe -
e.g. a Spanish one in Spain and a French one in France. The phone is
OK but the battery is a bit clapped (doesn't hold a charge for long -
but I guess I can get a new battery if it's worth it).
Will I need to get the phone unblocked by O2? How much does this
    cost?
I don't want to go over to Spain and buy a pre-pay sim card and find
    it won't work.
    Thanks for any advice.

02 phones are not normally network locked, the way to find out is to borrow
a mates sim card (that is not on 02) stick it in your phone and see if it
works. If for example, your phone works with an Orange sim in it, it will
work with a spanish sim in it.

Sorry, just noticed that you've got a T28 world. I think these phones are
900 and 1900 mhz only, so would not work on the Orange network anyway, try a
Vodafone sim in it. Also when in Spain, make sure that your spanish PAYG sim
runs on 900 mhz *not* 1800.

If the T28 is unlocked it will *work* with an Orange SIM. You will be able
to *see* Voda & O2 networks under network selection - you just won't be able
    to log onto them!

If the T28 is locked - you won't be able to get that far as the O SIM will
    not be accepted.

Thanks everyone for the advice - I'll try a vodaphone swop as soon as
I track down a friend on that network.
But don't think I'll pay any money to have the phone unlocked until
I've tried it abroad - someone else tells me that many Spanish phone
shops will unlock any phone for about 10 quid. So no panic to do in
    advance.
    Cheers, Chris
