Much cheaper on www.livetelecom.com So, is there a reason not to go with
them?

What he said. Their price is extremely appealing but I'd like to hear from
those who have bought from them before I hand over my money.
I've heard that high street shops will be getting much more available stock
of the P900 on the 20th of November. I wonder if this will mean the online
prices go down abit ? Whaddya all think ? I've never bought sim free before
and I don't want to get shafted over the price. But at the same time, it's
lust at first sight, I so gotta have one.

Further to this I've just found a few posts on esato.com from bods saying
they have had bad experiences with livetelecom - I couldn't find anyone who
had good ones. One guy said they took forever to deliver - he only got a
result when he sent them a solicitor's letter. So it doesn't look good. Bah.

That's annoying!
Looks like I'm not going to have the money for the P900 until late December
so hopefully prices will have dropped a bit by then but I want to go
somewhere where I know I will receive it!

Pretty much in the same situation. Expansys have always been good for me -
never bought a phone from them but everything else I've bought has always
turned up within the time quoted - and they look like the next cheapest I
can find so far. I am abit concerned about buying so close to christmas but
hey - what can you do ? 'Course, the prices will probably drop even more
after christmas (because I guess retailers want to make as much money out of
people buying xmas presents, and who wouldn't) but if we waited until then,
we might as well say wait until the spring and so on and so on. I am of the
opinion that as soon as you can afford it, get it !

In the past P4U have never applied "clawback" to people down tarrifing on
Orange. So what you do is;
1. Visit P4U and pick up a phone on an expensive Orange tarrif, something
like YP750 or YP1000. This should get you the phone for nothing or very
cheap.
2. Read carefully all pieces of paper that the salesman puts infront of you.
3. DO NOT sign anything that mentions clawback or attempts to lock you into
the tarrif you're signing up for. If they insist, call a halt to proceedings
and visit a different branch.
4. If you're not getting the phone for free, pay cash - don't use a credit
card.
5. Grasp shiney P900 firmly and scarper.
6. Get home, charge phone.
7. Make a phone call with it (let one of your mates know you have a new toy)
8. Hang up, then dial 150.
9. Once you manage to reach a human, say "Hallo, I've decided YP750 is not
for me, I'd like to switch to the high speed data tarrif please". The tubby
will carry out your request, one of Orange's selling points has always been
that you can change tarrif whenever you want without penalty (OVP-VM is a
special case and doesn't count)
10. Say "thank you very much", hang up, hug yourself and giggle.
Of course, doing this means that the P4U salesman is going to have a large
lump of his commission clawed back, but you will not (you have signed
nothing aggreeing to it)
Between you and your conscience really, and if you have ever suffered at the
hands of P4U/Singlepoint in the past.

Oh, you are so right I bloody well have .... They signed me up with
single****e when they told me my contract was going to be with o2 which
meant I couldn't have some of the services I wanted, single****e then messed
me about over bills and charged me for calls that I should have had free and
in some cases had already paid for the previous month, then they did me over
the phones4life thing so - bugger 'em. If I can find the same salesbod to do
this to I'll be sure to make a point of using him.
Coupla (well, more than) questions;
Is the P900 unlockable and how much for reputable facilitation of such?
Orange is dead as a doornail here, I mean, no calls unless you press your
head against a window (which is why I left Orange last year in the first
place).
Are P4U wise to this ? I can be fronty but I'm not sure I have the gall to
carry it off if I'm possibly going to get sussed. I guess I can just walk
away though if so.
How much am I going to be required to pay in the shop at the time ? Just the
cost of the phone ? Or one month tarrif rental upfront, or something like
that. It's a while since I bought a phone and tarrif in a shop so I don't
recall how it works.
And finally, what does the High Speed wotsit actually cost per month ? Can't
find this important bit of info on the website.

It is hard to see how they could not be wise to it, however the theory is
that they are so blinded by the thought of a sale that they ignore the
possible downside.

Whatever the phone costs, nothing else (i.e. if it's free, nought)

HS Data costs a tenner a month. Look upon it as the phone costing £120 on a
years interest free credit. Full costs for HS data can be found here

Well, I guess not everyone thinks of down tarrifing so quickly. I certainly
never thought of it anyway.

Thankyou very much indeed. I shall let you know if I do it, and to be honest
I can't think of a reason (bar the phone not being unlockable) not to !
