Howdy - I just purchased an Ericsson t39mc from someone overseas - he
claims it's unlocked and this appears to be true, as I was able to
roam on the AT&T Wireless network. The problem is, I am unable to
find a way to get on the cingular network. The SIM card I am using
worked fine in my Nokia 3595 on the cingular network. Basically, when
I received the t39, I tossed the new SIM card in and turned it on.
Like I said earlier, I've been able to make some calls on the AT&T
network, but it doesn't seem to want to connect to cingular (I'm in
    Chicago, FYI).

I've searched for networks but it always says "no networks" so that's
no good. I usually have full signal strength on my 3595 inside my
apartment, so I'm baffled. Any suggestions?

(Also, anyway to update the firmware on this phone?)

    Thanks all.

    Brian

Is it possible that cingular is only using 850mhz where you are?

I didn't think of that! It's sunday or course and I won't be able to
check until tomorrow... Anyone in the Chicagoland area know if that is
    true or not?

Me again - I think you're absolutely right. I did some research on
the Cingular site and all their phones are 850/1900 MHz. Now I'm
depressed. I really liked this T39. What is the standard frequency
    for GSM in France/England?

900 and 1800 MHz. Your T39 will work there perfectly.

A short tour on the Nokia page

    <http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/3595>

    confirms this: 3595 is

    | GSM/GPRS 850/1900 MHz
