I followed the instruction to the letter about installing .jar files/games
to my V500 on Orange using BTooth, It never works, i can transfer audio &
jpgs no problem but games, no. Ive been told i need a USB to unlock the Java
settings before i can do anything, is this true do ou know?
    Any help would be fine.
PS. i also have a V600 & its exactly the same on this.

My understanding is that the v500, v600 and v3 are virtually identical
in this regard so it should work as configured (maybe someone here can
confirm that?). I simply drag and drop the .jar file (NOT .jad files!)
onto the OBEX Object PUSH icon and the download starts. There are two
icons - the OBEX Object PUSH and the OBEX File Transfer. Be sure to
drop the .jar file onto the PUSH icon and NOT the Transfer icon (which
WILL work for audio and pictures). Is that what you're doing? What
    happens? Any error messages?

You do not need a cable. I've added my solution to BruceR's excellent guide:

    Hope this works for you.

NB: I too have a V500 on Orange.

One other thought. On the menu bar in My BT Places click Bluetooth:Local
Services and make sure that PIM Transfer and File Transfer say "Not
Required" under the security setting. You can right click the item to
change it. Also do this under the Client Apps tab.

    Greetings,

I have a couple of questions regarding this process to move games to the
phone. First I was able to download some Java games from a Motorola specific
site. The files came down as file.jar.zip. Using WinZip I was able to
examine the files and they appear to have multiple files contained inside.
My first question is do I simply rename these files to file.jar? If not how
do I turn a zip file of java stuff into a jar file?

Second, I experimented with changing the name of the file to file.jar and
was able to transfer it to the phone per the guide mentioned above, however
I cannot see any way to actually use this file. It doesn't appear in the
games menu (oh I have a V551 by the way) and when looking at the files
installed on the phone I only see pics, audio and video files. Any ideas on
where the file is? How would I access this file or at least delete it
assuming it's not a valid .jar file?

    Thanks for the help
    Cheers
    TC

    Re: BLUETOOTH SOLUTIONS

Sounds like it's not a valid .jar file since you just renamed something
else. Here's what you need to do:
First, a .ZIP file is a compressed collection of files that's used to
shorten dowload times by making them smaller. You need to UNZip the
files to actually use them. WinXP has zip extraction built in or you can
use any of the many ZIP programs available for free. WINZip is popular
and a search for "free zip" will take you to a bunch of program sites.
Once you've extracted the files, you can drag and drop the .jar file
ONLY (forget about the others) to the OBEX Object Push icon. The file
will upload to the phone. The phone will ask you to accept the file and
you'll accept it. After the file transfer is complete, the file will
either install itself or ask if you'd like it to install. You'll accept
that and the file will install the game and then appear under "Games" in
your phone's menu. Find the game and run it.
Note that not all games will run on all phones. You might find an error
message during the file transfer which usually means it's not a valid
..jar file or it's too big. You could get an error during the
installation process which means it won't install on your phone or,
lastly, when you run the game you could see an application error. If you
get that last one just delete the game and go on to find something else.

Thanks Bruce. I wasn't sure but I suspected that simply renaming the file
wouldn't work. One note, the zip file did not have an actual .JAR file
inside it. I will have to go back to the site and see how they intend for
    you to use the files.

If you tell me the URL for the site I'll take a look and see what it is.

    The site is http://www.motomodders.net/

They have some free Java downloads (you'll have to do a free registration to
get to the download section). When I download them Windows defaults to a Zip
file file type which is why I had the first problem. I figured out how to
download them as JAR files but they don't seem to work on the V551. It's
entirely possible that these java programs are not compatible with the V551,
there is no information on the site as to what phones they work with.

Thanks again for the assistance. At least I am able to pass the files to the
    phone via Bluetooth.

    Cheers
    TC
