Update Software on i58sr -- advice on data cable

I have an i58sr. My software version is R88.01.00. Latest version is
R88.01.07 as of last night. I know I must have a data cable to download
and install the software. As I recall, to use the USB data cable with
WinXP you need to get the patch from idenphones.motorola.com.

Which data cable -- Serial (NKN6544) or USB/Serial (
NNTN4007)?
Any known problems?

I did a newsgroup on this and didn't find any current suggestions.
Suggestions or opinions would be welcome.

I did a google search on this newsgroup and didn't find any current
suggestions.
