i've got a nextel phone with GPS.
i know the system updates every 15 minutes...
but was wondering *exactly* when.
IE: Is it every 15 minutes since the phone is turned on?
(for example)
Also...if traveling within a no-signal area...
is the position listed as "unknown" or will it just stay
at the last position until the phine comes back into a reception area.

Hi Philo,
As far as the no signal area, I put my Nextel i860 under a metal
desk and refreshed. After several minutes I got a brief message
"unable to locate satellites", a loud beep and it reverted to the
previous fix. IOW I didn't lose the previous fix.
I don't know about updating every 15 minutes, I need to select
refresh to get a new fix.

Re: GPS questions
In order for your phone to get an accurate reading of
longitude/latitutde you have to be in a pretty good coverage area due
to the fact that GPS works with 6 satellites.
Usually a third party application like "comet tracker" is necessary to
allow tracking and you must be logged in for the server to pinpoint
your location. Log out of the software and the GPS built into the phone
is only usable by Nextel for perhaps E911 emergency location only.
