Hi...
I've been a Nextel customer for about 2 years now. Started out with a
550+ (aka The Brick), upgraded to an i88, and my new i95cl should arrive
on Monday. I've been a very satisfied customer until I moved from
Southern New England to New York City. Changing my phone number was very
easy but getting a new Private ID has made my life hell. Apparently the
ID I have now belonged to someone else not too long ago because I have
been harrassed night and day via Direct Connect for the last 6 months. I
get beeped and alerted at all hours of the day and night. I've tried to
explain to the guy I am not the person he is trying to contact and that
he needs to stop beeping me but he just cusses me out and accuses me of
"stealing the channel" and insisting I am blocking him from reaching
this other person by "misapproprating his bandwith" He can not be made
to understand the person he is trying to reach obviously cancelled their
Nextel service and their old ID was reassigned to me. Thursday night was
the last straw. He started his crap again and then within minutes I had
TWELVE other ID's beeping me demanding to speak to the same person he's
been trying to reach for months. Apparently he got his buddies to harass
me too. I finally had to shut my phone off completely, which I hate to
do because then it keeps the people I want to hear from from reaching
me. But this jerk keeps alerting me at 2, 3, 4 in the morning! I
contacted Nextel but they refused to do a thing except change my Private
ID-which is not an option because then I have to go and tell all my
friends to change it on their phones..why should I be inconvenienced
because of this jerk? They lied and said they can't do anything...of
course they can..they know who the Private ID of the person harrassing
me is and who it belongs to! Nextel told me to go to the police, which I
did but they can't do anything either because Nextel is refusing to
cooperate with them and give them the identity of the harasser! I really
hope Nextel will realize they can not condone Direct Connect Harassment!
They need to either implement a policy punishing those who harass via
Direct Connect, or add the ability to block certain Private ID's to
their firmware. I got the i95cl because I was told that it has a call
filter that will allow me to block Direct Connect calls. That way I can
turn DC off when I go to bed and while I am work and hopefully get some
peace!!! Thanks for listening to my vent. Aside from the harassment
issue I'm happy with Nextel.

Does it take minutes from your plan? File a claim against him in small
claims court for your lost minutes if you can get some enough info out of
him to file one.

What the hell is your problem? Are you always nasty to people here?
For your information HE is the one that argues with ME! Everytime he
beeps me I calmly and politely tell him he has the wrong person and to
stop calling me, and then I no longer respond to him. He's the one who
keeps beeping me screaming profanity and accusations even though I've
stopped responding. The only way to stop it is to shut my phone off.
Why should I have to change my number? Why shouldn't Nextel take some
responsibility and do something? If I were to change my Private ID
chances are here in the NYC market I'd just get another one that was
previously someone elses and all the headaches that go with it. The
phone company does not immediately reassign phone numbers for this
reason and neither should Nextel. Don't bother replying Mr. Ekhart, I've
killfiled you as you seem to enjoy being rude and nasty to people from
up on your high horse. If anyone needs to grow up it's you..if you don't
like something you've read, delete it and move on.

Re: Harrassment Via Direct Connect
It isn't Nextel's responsibility to hold their customer's hands and make
sure they don't do anything to upset other people.
If you don't want to be harassed you have to do something about it, it's you
that has to make things change. If you don't want a new direct connect
number get a restraining order against the person harassing you. All you do
is get the private ID to the police and they'll do the rest. That doesn't
mean you'll get the personal information of your assailant, but Nextel has
to work with local law authorities in such matters.
Once again: restraining order.
I'll compare your situation to that of a person defecating themselves while
waiting in line for a ride at an amusement park:
You'll complain and complain that you waited so long in line it was
inevitable. You'll exclaim it's the amusement park's fault for not making
for shorter lines. But, rather than getting out of line and walking the
fifty feet to the restroom to relieve yourself you stayed in line continuing
to wait. And, instead of changing your pants you stay in the very same line
and yell at the ride operator because you soiled yourself.
You're a moron. You're being equally as rude other people in this news
group, and some times more so. Stop acting like you're the victim.
"If anyone needs to grow up it's you..if you don't like something you've
read, delete it and move on."
