Does anyone know how to change the word "nextel" on the display
    screen?

Also, how does the photosensor option work? I don't quit understand.
User guide says that the photosensor will sense for lighting condition
and turn on the backlights. Well, I had my phone flipped open in the
dark (after the lights briefly comes on) the whole phone (keypads,
    screen, etc.) didn't stay on.

Thanks if anyone willing to explain these to me.

From the main screen, press MENU, scroll down to STYLES, press SELECT,
choose NEW STYLE, enter the name you wish to replace NEXTEL with, press OK,
press DONE, go through the STYLES menu, and select the name you entered.

I'm going to assume you did the "styles" thing mentioned above.

From the main screen, press MENU, scroll down to STYLES, press SELECT,
highlight the style you just created and press MENU, go to EDIT, and press
SELECT, go to BACKLIGHT and press CHANGE, and select how long you want the
light to stay on for, then press BACK, then EXIT.

the setting to adjust how long the light stays on is one thing, how do you
cause the photosensor to turn on the backlight when it is dark outside ?
Mine goes out in the dark all the time, it only stays on the duration that I
    set.

I believe the photosensor merely tweaks the contrast of the display to off
    set low light conditions.

Also, it can be enabled or disabled from one of the various setup menus.

Not sure if the i90 selftest will check it, but earlier models could verify
the operation in the selftest mode invoked by holding the 1,2 and 3 keys
    while powering on the phone.

As far as editing the carrier string, I believe you will find that to be
phone software level dependent. The later versions are a little harder to
    work with.

All the photosensor does is prevent the backlight from turning on in the
    light.

What do you mean by that? I tried the sensor options both off and on.
yet the phone still turns on when I flipped the cover up (with plenty
of lights) and also when it's total dark. I just don't see the
    different.

Thanks, I was actually looking to get rid of the word nextel instead
of just adding a new personalized line, but I guess it's better than
nothing. I still think that someone here knows how to remove that
    nextel word altogether.

Like someone else mentioned here, this isn't the option I was looking
for. I called the CSR and they couldn't explain anymore except to say
that the backlight supposed to come on (and stayed on) when there is
poor lights condition (with the sensor option "on")
