cop kills happy dog wagging its tail
COOKEVILLE, Tennessee Police video released Tuesday showed a
North Carolina family kneeling and handcuffed, who shrieked as
officers
killed their dog -- which appeared to be playfully wagging its tail --
with a shotgun during a traffic stop.

OLD news. By at least six months.
Incidentally, for those who don't recall, the dog was a *large* dog
(mastiff, I believe, though my memory is occasionally faulty), and
when
the officer shot it, he thought that it was attacking him. Because its
family was handcuffed and kneeling in front of him, were audibly and
visibly distraught, and he had a gun and was therefore in an
aggressive
position toward its humans.
Cookeville police now undergo training to help them identify the
behavior of animals, especially dogs. It doesn't bring the dog back,
or
undo the various snafus that led to the incident, but it's the best
that
they can do with what they have for the future. The family is suing
both the officer and the county (as well as, I believe, the TN state
patrol). The officer is suing the county for releasing information
from
his past record. He had previously shot two dogs, and in both cases
even
the owner said it was necessary.
And people are still making death threat phone calls to someone listed
in the phone book who has the unfortunate luck to have the same name
as
the officer. The officer is unlisted and has been for years; it's SOP
for officers.

Re: cop kills happy dog wagging its tail
Last week, a lawsuit was filed by the family. It names the local officer(s),
City, Highway Patrol, and includes dispatchers.
Memo to everyone who travels through Tennessee: They think money blowing
onto the road automatically indicates a robbery has been committed. So NEVER
leave your wallet on top of the car while buying gasoline.
The dog you save may be your own.....
