Some time back, I got a serial cable for my Nextel (for software updates,
etc). I have an i50sx and an i30sx. I downloaded the software from Nextel
(and their Motorola website that's not working more than it is working). I
can't get the software to recognize I have the phone plugged in to the cable.

I'm wondering if the cable I have is bad. My phones do nothing different
when I plug the cable in. If I use Hyperterminal and connect directly to
COM1, Hyperterminal says "Connected", but typing random characters doesn't
get any response, and nothing on the phone changes.

Is the phone supposed to do anything when you plug the cable in to it? Does
the display change at all? Does some new icon show up? I'd like to confirm
it's the cable before I go buy a new one.

    Thanks.

If you connect with HyperTerminal at 19,200 BpS, 8N1 and
type [Enter]AT[Enter], does the phone return 'OK' ?
