My 6600 takes a full 30 seconds from switch on until it asks for the PIN
code.
Is this normal?
Can this be a function of the SIM card in use, mine is a 16k?
Also, it never fully plays the startup tune.
Any ideas here?
Thanks
Joel

Re: 6600 slow to startup
The startup time is normal... the symbian OS is much more like a proper PDA
OS, than a previous nokia phone .. you do have to wait for it to actually
start up properly..
as for not playing the tone .. have you tried not touching the phone during
its startup process? any key press will cancel the intro video, and it seems
to cache up key presses/joystick movements during the loading time, and then
skip the welcome video.
If its still skipping it, it might be something else, perhaps an app youv
installed?

Joel, are you using a memory card? If so then try taking it out and start
up without it. If it doesn't do it then its the card. It does it on mine
with a Sandisk 128mb card and I put it down to the OS recognising and
preparing the card during boot up sequence as it will use resources. I just
live with it. Whats your firmware version? Mine is 3.42.1. Check by
inputting *#0000# (which is star, hash, 4 zeros and hash). This is what
most people have. 3.49 is out but that is a specific upgrade for for
provider Orange. There will be a firmware upgrade for the 6600 which will
iron out the bugs but we'll have to wait....

Re: 6600 slow to startup
Hi Carl,
My software version is the same a yours.
There are quite a few things I find irritating about this phone, if I find
one more I will return to my 6310i !!
The latest irritation is when you try and come out of keylock it will not do
it the first time if the screen save has already kicked in.
Hope the new version does iron out the bugs.
Cheers
Joel

Re: 6600 slow to startup
If it's any consolation, I have the same "problem". Seems to take a while to
boot up, and the intro "tune" only plays a couple of "bars" and then nothing
:-( VERY annoying.
Sometimes, however, it does play the full tune (Who designed the o/s? Mr
Gates?? :-)) )

Try this,
When it is in screen save mode and you want to unlock it,
push the joystick anyway (up,down, left or right)
THEN press menu + * and it will unlock straight away.
You can also hit any key then do the menu + * but i seem to use the joystick.
Either way works. the first key / joystick press takes it out of screen save mode.
It irritated me to start with but i just do the above now without a second thought.
Also the long boot up is due to the O/s it uses (+ size of your MMC, ie while booting it checks the MMC)
as i never switch mine off i dont care how long it takes (or hearing the start up tune) :-)

Hi
My 6600 which has the very latest Orange firmware ( 3.49.2 ) plays
the full startup tune OK.
