I was lucky to get that long with a 7650... N-gage seem to last two days in
standby on a full charge though.

Depends on usage. Surely it's not sitting in your pocket the entire time.

Do you have Bluetooth or infra-red turned on all the time ?
    Turn them off.

Do you have a screensaver installed? If yes, uninstall it!. Any
screensaver other then the standard nokia one, drains your battery
    like crazy.

I've also heard that having Bluetooth on permanently has a detrimental
    effect on the battery life!

    Chegs!

In this wonderful newsgroup jacko at [email protected]
    exclaimed and announced the following:

Its a lithium battery so won't suffer as bad as ni-cd's like in other phones
if the charge is topped up daily. The battery has a built in circuit that
prevents overcharge (because lithium is an unstable compound and can't be
overcharged or the battery will blow) and won't suffer memory effect to the
same degree as other non lithium batteries. However the battery will still
eventually become useless. 2 months old is no way near the mark.

The 6600 will drain the battery more if you have third party screensavers,
apps that run in the background, bluetooth left on when not needed,
downloading/uploading to the memory card with bluetooth/IR, etc. etc.

So try to turn things off or uninstall them if the power drain is
unacceptable. I think the battery performs well considering the use I give
my phone. I'm forever taking pics/video, playing back funny vid clips and
sounds to my mates and colleagues and then I use the phone a lot for
sms/mms, oh and talking to people on too!

I'd rather top the battery up every night when I got to bed (you won't
over-charge it as mentioned above) than have it go flat when I need it. I
turn my phone off overnight so even at 25 hours its gonna last 3 days on
stand-by. My advice it to just charge it up every day if more than two
battery level bars have disappeared, as I noticed those bars start to
disappear slowly then a lot more quickly as the battery drains.

So no, not crap, just the 6600 uses more power because its a smart-phone.
Pity they couldn't fit a 1000mah battery in it though....

Leaving the bluetooth on does has virtually no effect on the battery at all,
the power used when it's not active is negligible. I leave mine on all the
time and I never switch the phone off, it gets daily use and my battery
lasts about 4 1/2 days on average.

makes a big difference for me .. tho I must admit the phone usually lives
within contact range of my PC with bluetooth .. perhaps being in range of
other devices costs more power ..

but there is a noticible difference in run time with and without bluetooth
    being active for me ..
