Handsfree Transmitter Power

Not that I understand the full meaning of it, but can anyone tell me what
the power of a Nokia handsfree kit is? 2W, 10W someother W??

in the US, you'd be looking at a max of 3W of phone power (RF) or you may be
looking at the audio wattage (i.e. how loud is the speaker?)

Whatever the output power of the phone is; car kits don't usually contain
a power amplifier.

In the UK, GSM900 is a max. of 2W, 1800 1W. The phone won't usually
transmit as much as this as with a good signal from the base the power
output will decrease accordingly, only if you are really struggling for a
signal will it TX at full power.

OK - I was a little concerned that my new car kit has an aerial stuck to the
inside of the car windscreen instead of a proper outside one - I thought I
was frying myself in my own oven every time I made a call! On the matter of
not containing a power amplifier, with the old car kit with external aerial,
I always noticed a dramatic improvement in signal strength as shown on the
phone's display of number of 'signal bars', most noticeable when for
instance there might not be any signal with the bare phone at all, but in
the car there would be, say, three bars

That type of aerial is basically crap, get rid of it and fit an external
one. It doesn't have to be huge, a small 1/4 wave glass mount on the rear
window will do, something like this:

Presumably that gadget you've just recommended would need a corresponding
connector, like some sort of inductor, on the other side of the glass? So,
presumably I'd need effectively to have half the car kit refitted?

So,

It comes with the corresponding inside component, which has a coax cable
which you connect to the car kit's aerial connector.

I use one and it works well with my CARK-91/6310i.
