    ahh, ok!

Not sure about the 6600, but try this:

    select camera
    settings
    camera sounds (toggle to on/off)

    bye, jens

You can't do it with the original installed cam application, only with 3rd
part apps, such as Camera FX

as I just discovered, I still have an original setup until I get a Bluetooth
dongle for my pc. I wont pay for phone software and that includes the byte
    charges for gprs/wap downloads.

    Yes you can.

Go to Profiles, and Personalise the profile you dont want to have the sounds for, and turn Warning Tones Off.

but that spoils it for the rest of the phone. I understand that this click
feature is to alert the unaware that shots are being taken, so I understand
    why its there.

He doesn't need to switch to another profile. Just "Personalise" the profile he is currently using to switch "Warning tones"
off. The camera noise will then always be off for the profile he is using.

I think its just the noises it makes if there is an error i.e. an app closing due to a crash, or when you try to connect to GPRS
and it cant get a connection. Why the camera noise is included as a "warning" is anyones guess.

nah, I'm not that kind of person, I was remarking why it was difficult to
turn off to protect the unwary in locker rooms. I just wanted to catch all
the contacts on my phone with natural expressions to add the thumbnail to
their names. I hate posed mugshots that present a face you normally see only
with a camera in your hand and never in casual circumstances.
