    check out XMessenger and MiniChatMIDP.

they're both java midp apps so they're a bit slow, but they work i guess.

Bad news first: I've tried a few J2ME IM clients and they were sluggish and
    awkward to use.

Good news: Agile Messenger from Agile Mobile is coming to Series 80 (Nokia
9300/9500) in the near future. I have my hopes high, because AM is the best
    IM client for Series 60.

I've been off the group for a while so I haven't been following. How
long has the 9500 been out? Nokia has no release date yet for the US.

Nokia 9500 has been available for about a month in many countries in Europe
    and Asia.

I didn't manage to find any available information at nokiausa.com:

    http://www.google.com/search?q=9500+site%3Anokiausa.com

Instead Nokia has announced that many enterprise solutions for the 9500 will
be available in Q1 or Q2 in the U.S., for example Blacberry email support
and Symantec client security. So I guess it will be available sometime early
    2005.

The European version works in GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz networks and the U.S.
version supports GSM 850/1800/1900 MHz networks.
