When people call me I can only answer my nokia 6230 on speakerphone or
go to "options" to select "handset". I just cannot turn off the
    speakphone option.

Does anyone know how to turn off the speakerphone as I obviously don't
want to have that on when taking calls?

    things I've tried so far:

The nokia support centre had no solution apart from taking the battery
off and restarting the handset. That doesn't work!!!!

I've done a google and it seems to be a complaint that others have
had, but so far no solutions have been posted

Nokia telephone support are worse than useless and give you the choice
of calling on a premium rate phone number at £0.75 a minute or joining
a stupid club so they can bombard you with junk mail. They refuse to
do simple warranty calls. If I had a fault with a TV or my PC I just
wouldn't expect the public to accept this.

anyway thanks for the help, it really is appreciated as 15 minutes on
speaking to unhelpful nokia people is frustrating.

    "J".

It may be worth you joining the Nokia Club.

I wouldn't say they are always THAT helpful. Some sound as if they are
straight out of school (junior school), and they try to "fob you off" with a
really simplistic answer, which is NOT the resolution....

However, I have been with the Nokia "Club" for a few years now, with a
    number of different handsets.

You DON'T in fact receive loads of junk mail from them. In fact it rare to
receive ANY mail from them, which is good.

Plus, it'll save the 75ppm to their "non member" line.

With regard to your problem, I've never heard of it, nor experienced it, so
    am afraid I can't help.

Have you considered haveing your software flashed, at an authorized Nokia
service centre (Level 2 normaly flash "in house" within an hour or two.

    Hope this may help?

    Cheers

Er, I take it you're not answering calls by pressing the joypad key instead
of pressing the 2nd key down on the left? I kept making this mistake after
being so used to an old 3310.

thanks for that. I'll try and check that today just in case I am
hitting the wrong button. It seems odd as I've taken calls quite
happily for a few days before this issue came up so it is possible
that I was doing this without realising and that switching Nokia
    models has caused confusion.

For anyone else with this issue I just bypassed Nokia and went back to
my mobile company and they put a new one in the post. I'm hoping now
that it isn't a simple user blunder )
