Newbie help with 9500 wlan, please

Happy with new 9500, but using 802.11b wifi/wlan to establish an adhoc
connection to a peer (laptop computer) is intensely frustrating. I
don't suppose I've tried "everything" since there are a bunch of
variables, but I've sure spent a long time at it. If anyone can post a
step by step "foolproof" recipe I'd sure be grateful.

FWIW, the phone's wlan works fine with public hot spots, but I'd sure
like to be able to connect to my own computer that way to share files.

Since the phone's "explorer" equivalent apparently isn't network aware
I bought a couple of pieces of software - something called
FileXchange, and a vnc product - but neither of them have shown any
signs of life, either - and neither "company" is much into customer
support. But that's a different problem.

Last time I needed to transfer files between a laptop and my 9500, it
was straightforward. I can't remember all we did, but the basics were to
create and ad-hoc 'Internet settings' account with an IP address to
match the laptop 10.0.0.1 for the laptop, 10.0.0.2 for the 9500. Netmask
255.255.255.0 for both. No default route, no DNS.

Then run Apache or similar on the laptop and browse to it with the 9500.
File upload if you want it. Voila!

Thanks a million - haven't tried it, but d/l'ed apache and will give
it a try. It sounds like it just might be foolproof.
