I wonder if you can help me.
I currently have a Sony Ericsson V800 mobile phone and I am connected with
    Vodafone in the UK.

For some reason Vodafone altered my phone so that I cannot use standard MP3
files for ringtones, instead, I have to use files that end with the
    extension .dm.
I am now looking to upgrade my phone but this time I am going back to Nokia.
It is a choice between the Nokia N70 and the Nokia 6680.

If I get either of these phones through Vodafone, would I have the same
problems I currently have i.e. would Vodafone alter the phone forcing me to
use .dm files for ringtones rather than standard MP3 files?

If this is the case, is there anyway I could undo what Vodafone have done so
I can use MP3 files for ringtones? Is there anything else I can do?

I hope you can help me.

I appreciate any help or information given.

    Thanks.

Probably the only way to get around this problem is to purchase an
unbranded and unlocked phone. Unfortunately many providers insist on
disabling stock features they, for some unknown reason, believe people
    do not want.

I have an N70 on Voda and it all works OK. MP3s or AACs.
Also got a big card in it and works great for music and video. Got 20
albums (AAC) and a full film on there

I too have a Vodafone branded N70, no problems with MP3's. 512mg card
    also works fine.
    Great handset.
