nokia 6230 usb data memory card storage

why with this phone and usb cable can i not just plug into the usb port
and see the memory card as a new drive letter?

with a creative labs muvo mp3 player it shows up as a new drive and i
can just copy tracks on to it?

is there a way to fix this or are nokia just being awkward wanting
everyone to install pc suite and usb cable driver?

id like to use it as my mp3 player instead of having a seperate mp3
player as well, but i dont want to have to load on pc suite on every
computer when i want to copy tracks to the phone

and ideas welcome...... is there any other ways round this... could i
get a mmc card reader which will pick up in windows without and
drivers/software and just take out the mmc card to upload songs?

if theres no way round it are there any other similar phones which will
do what i want???? thanks!!!!

I just bought a 512 gig MMC card at the local CompUSA for my 6230. I can
read and write to the card via a SanDisk 6-in-One read/writer. I placed a
folder called "Movies" into it and loaded some ripped 3gp movies into it.
Works pretty well except the screen res. of 128x96 isn't so hot. Audio
quality of 3gp rips is pretty sorry as well with the built-in speaker. I
don't have headphones. I can't see why this wouldn't work with mp3 files as
well.

I find the SanDisk read/writer to be far faster than trying to do it via
Bluetooth or the infrared way. No PC Suite needed.

last question, do u have a standard mmc card or an mmc plus card?

transferring files on standard mmc through nokia cable was very slow...
apparently plus is a lot faster

Dunno. It's some generic CompUSA card. Has a silver metal band on the
front that has the word "Press" on it (???). The reader recognizes it as a
Kingston (sp?) or something like that. I recall it says something about
being a dual-voltage card too. There are some connector pins further in
from the edge, but the phone's matching connectors are at the end only.

Write speed is pretty good in the reader - minute or less, but maybe 30
minutes for same 50K 3gp video file via Bluetooth.

With those "connector pins further in from the edge", it's an MMC Plus. I
have a 1GB Kingston card like that in my 6230...
