How hard would it be (if possible) to transfer my phone service from a
Nokia 3360 to a 1260? My phone company said they wouldn't do it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Generally speaking, if you have 2 GSM cell phones that are branded to the
same carrier, it is a simple matter of swapping sim cards. However, these
phones were sold by 3 different carriers, and may only work if you get the
1260 unlocked. All things considered, you should simply buy a new phone.
Get one branded by the same carrier as the old phone, and be sure to get the
features you like. Check with your carrier, they may have a phone you really
    like.

Thanks for the reply. I will probably get a new phone soon but I
would like to play around with these for a while. Can you tell me how
to check for the manufacturer of the phone and how to locate and
    replace the sim cards. TIA

I can understand them not wishing to move you from a newer TDMA phone to one
that is part of a service that appears to be reducing/being phased out. If
you need to move away from the 3360 why not see if your service provider has
sometihng a bit more snazzy and feature packed? Okay, you may end up with a
new, fixed term contract as well but you'll probably get a *much* better
    phone than the 2160.

When I mentioned the phones being branded I meant by the carrier. Like
Cingular or T-mobile. The manufacturers make phones for different carriers.
As far as the manufacturer goes, you have already stated that the phones
    are Nokia.
As far as finding out who the phone's carrier is, look at the phone, it
will almost always be on the case. Oftentimes easier to see than the
manufacturer, and always easier than the model of the phone.
The sim chip is located under the battery.
Removing the sim depends upon the phone, it should be self explanatory.
The only hard part is if the phones are from different carriers, as I said
above. If they are from different carriers the sim will not work in the new
phone. But since both are Nokias they are easy to unlock. You can call the
original carrier of the phone you want to unlock and get the code from
them, or you can look for one of the many free unlocking services on the
web. You simply enter some information in, get the code, and follow the
    instructions.

Thank you for your reply. It's not replacing one phone but three.
One is for my 15 year old son who's traditionally very rough on all
things electronic. I would like the ability to transfer service onto
another phone without having to go down to the phone store. If you
know of a web site that can show me how to transfer a sim card and
look up the IMEI number, I would greatly appreciate it

You can check the IMEI by keying *#06# and it should appear. I had hoped
someone in the US who is/was more familiar with your type of service would
have butted in by now. Swapping SIM cards is easy if that's all that's
required and the service follows the SIM. Atleast it does on GSM 'phones
which is all I unfortunately have experience of.
