    Hi,

I'm wanting to backup (and perhaps edit) the details on my Nokia 6225
to my Windows PC and / or Mac, but seem to be having some problems.

I bought a cable so I could plug it into the USB port and the
approriate PC Suite software from the Nokia website, but it refuses to
acknowledge that the phone is connected.

Next I bought a Phonebook Flash Drive from usb.brando.co.hk. I followed
the procedure to download the information from the phone to the flash
drive, and that appeared to work. I then plug it into my Windows PC and
the in-built editing application runs fine, but doesn't display any
phonebook entries and if I try to "Add" a new entry it complains about
the phonebook being full. I can open the .DAT file in a text editor and
see my phonebook data is there, but it would be unwise to edit it there
since I don't know the file format (there are lots of extra characters
and I'm not sure what delimts each entry and each entry's pieces of
    data).

I'm stumped as to what I may be doing wrong and why neither system
seems to work as it should.

The only software I've found that enables the phone to be connected to
a Mac is DataPilot, and there's a couple of applications from Oxygen
that say they work with Windows PCs, but I don't want to spend more
money if what I've got is meant to work.

My 6225 loads data from my desktop Mac Address Book via firewire. No
cables, no extra software. However, it won't do the whole Address Book
at once, only one entry at a time but it does load all the info
including multiple numbers and several street addresses including those
that are written in other character formats.

Give me a holler by email if you like, it's not bunged.

    Thanks for the reply.

FireWire?!?!? I think you mean Bluetooth since FireWire definitely
needs cables. Or maybe an infrared connection.

I didn't think the 6225 (aka 6220) had Bluetooth, it's not listed in
the manual or the website. Are you sure you don't mean the 6255 - extra
    5 instead of a 2??

I did mean Bluetooth. Sorry about that.

Turns out mine is a 6102i.

Oh well, 0 for 2. I'll go quietly now.

    Thanks for trying. :-)

I've tested the Phonebook Flash Drive on a different Nokia phone and it
works fine there, so it must be something peculiar about mine - perhaps
even something not quite working properly in the data connector. :-(

Re: Backing up 6225 to PC / Mac

It looks like I may be making some progress here.

I've compared the files from the two phones and found that one
separates records with the hex values 01 60 and the other with 01 5F.
A bit of hacking on the non-working file to swap the values to match
the working file and hey-presto the file works in the editor.

Now I just need to check that the file still uploads back to the phone
properly (after swapping the codes back again) when I get back to where
that phone is. If that works, then I need to find a small Windows
application that makes it easy to swap them backwards and forwards.

It seems, that you've bought non-original cable. Nokia PC Suite may not work with non-original cables. Most of such cables are based on ProLific PL-2303 chipset. You can download the driver here: http://www.prolific.com.tw/eng/downloads.asp?ID=31 - this driver assigns virtual COM port to your cable.

We support non-original cable connectivity in Oxygen Phone Manager II ( http://www.opm-2.com/ ), Oxygen Express ( http://www.oxygensoftware.com/products/oexpress/ ) and Oxygen FM Manager ( http://www.oxygensoftware.com/en/pro...p?ProductID=43 ) . You should configure this cable in our software as COM port and 'DAU-9p/F-Bus' cable type in 'Tools' -> 'Options' in our software.
