We'll have to know which sellphone carrier you are using. The ability to
use your own mp3 files as a ringtone is a carrier-selectable item in the
firmware, one of the things the carrier can delete or disable so you cannot
use it. Carriers do this so they can SELL you ringtones for your
SELLphone. Otherwise, you wouldn't be stupid enough to BUY a 5 second tiny
music file if you could make it yourself and use it at will.

    Re: Nokia 5310 XpressMusic, how?

Service providers can disable certain functions on a handset but its a first
    for me with ringtones.

I don't know what other service providers do with their handsets outside of
the U,K I can only speak for service providers in the U.K.

I do know that all nokia handsets come with ringtones as part of the generic
firmware even if service providers has integrated their own software but
never to the extent of not having or disabling the function to add your own
    ringtones.

Also. if you are using the wrong file format or the quality bit rate is not
supported. I do not know the full specs of the handset but am willing to
bet it will play .mp3 files. Have a look at the nokia site for full specs.
Am willing to bet it'll play .mpa and .acc.

Also. you can convert the audio files using nokia music converter. This can
be found on the nokia support site or within the package.

Does, the 5310 have support for a memory card? On some models, you have to
'refresh' your collection. This enables the handset to search for all audio
    files.

Hope i have helped in some way...
