I have a Nokia 6610. I have recently installed Nokia PC Suite 5.0
(bundled with the phone), and it will not communicate with the phone
    over my infrared connection.

Microsoft's "Infrared Monitor" knows the phone is there and that it is
a 6610, so clearly the phone can communicate with my PC.

However, when I use Nokia's "Connection Manager" to try and connect my
phone to PC Suite, I get the following error message:
    Code:
    --------------------
    Invalid IrDA socket (0x80043206, NokiaCL.ServiceLayer)
    --------------------
    My OS is Windows 98.

I would appreciate any help anyone could offer -- thanks in advance.

That's right. Usually, this is caused by an old infrared device driver.
Find out the make and model of your infrared adapter and then find and load
    the latest driver.

Re: PC Suite: "Invalid IrDA socket"

Still isn't working -- I've downloaded the latest version of 'PC Suite'
from the Nokia site and the latest driver from the Sigmatel site, and
am getting basically the same error message.

I suspect it's the (Windows 98) Sigmatel drivers for my USB IrDA, has
anyone come across problems like this before?

try changing your settings for the IrDA in your device manager.
Particularly the speed and drivers in the drop down box. Dont think
that if its got a different name its not the one. i had this problem
and it worked for me by changing the speed and driver from the dropdown
    list in the device manager

Do you get the same problem with other software? Try the MobiMB demo:

    http://www.logomanager.co.uk/download.php

If the same problem occurs, then it is a driver problem. If it works OK,
then it is PC Suite that is the problem.

Re: PC Suite: "Invalid IrDA socket"

Carotid: I tried changing the speed, and unfortunately it didn't work,
but thanks for the pointer. I'm a Kiwi too (just moved here last year),
    it's a small world

Infrared Monitor can see the phone and knows it's a 6610, but PC Suite
can't communicate with it. At first I thought this was PC Suite's
fault, but then I realised I could not communicate with the phone using
the 'Infrared Recipient' thingee in 'My Computer' either, so I really
have know idea what's going on.

Mike: Thanks for your help, I'll have a look at that link you suggest
    and try the demo
