Hi,
I was wondering if the carkit is always "ON" or does it only gets into the
"ON" state when the mobile phone is in the kit.
and IF it's going into "ON" how does the carkit know the mobile phone is
there, does it use a special pin ?
Thanx,

The kit detects the phone is present when a couple of the pins in the
connector are joined by connecting the phone, don't ask me which ones..!
AFAIK it is off until then, so don't worry about it drawing power if you
don't use it for a while. (If you're going on hols or something you can
always pull the fuse, I wired mine to the back of the cigarette lighter
for just this reason).
BTW the ignition sense doesn't work with the 6310i, Nokia disabled it in
the phone for some reason.

It draws (according to my digital multimeter) 4ma when there's no phone
connected. This drops to zero if you unplug the fuse (obviously, but I just
did this to make sure it wasn't just the calibration or zero out). Enough to
flatten your battery in about 3 years.

Hmmm, it's always worked with me (firmware 4.80).

That's going back a while, latest is 5.50 (03/3/03) so you might want to
consider upgrading the firmware :-)
Unless you really need ignition sense of course ;-) Personally I've
never seen a need for it as I can't imagine why anyone would leave a phone
in the car when they get out. In the days of fixed mobiles maybe, but with
a removable handset why invite some low-life to break in to your car..?

Nah - I upgraded it once shortly after I got it as it wouldn't pair with the
bluetooth on my laptop, after that everything has worked perfectly on it. I
don't see a need to fix something that isn't broken, just to risk adding
bugs that I didn't experience before. Unless of course it adds more features
that I would use. I made that mistake 4 times on the 7110.

Very true. I'm actually speaking historically in my post as I upgraded my
phone (and cark91 to a cark126 as a result) some time ago. When I did I took
the opportunity to simply have the ignition sense permamently connected to
the 12v as I never once used it and it was just a pain having the phone
switch off whenever I turned the ignition off. However, I then realised my
mistake - my new phone has an option in the accessory profile for the
cark126 that has "Ignition Sense On/Off". Still, I doubt I'd use it anyway.
I totally agree, I feel it would be stupid to leave an expensive phone on
view in your car in this day and age. How long would it take someone to
smash your side window and grab it? 2 or 3 seconds?
