I have only had the phone for 24 hours -- I will try to post a more
complete review when I have had the phone a while. But some first
impressions:
So far so good. All in all I am very happy with it. I switched from the
6200 -- the the 6560 is very similar, but it is TDMA. The 6560 has the
features I have come to love -- the speakerphone, infrared synching
(except that the software to use it is not out yet), voice dialing, nice
color screen, etc. But unlike the GSM version, it can consistently make,
receive, and not drop calls (here in Seattle). From the little testing I
have done, reception is excellent.
It is a bit less attractive looking than the 6200, but the faceplates
should be out soon, which will help with that. It is almost exactly the
same size as the 6200, and uses the same battery.
It does not have the FM radio, which I never used. It has a graphic
equalizer, which is a cool idea, but I have not played with it.
Unbelievably, they removed the side volume control -- you have to use
the four-way controller on the front to change call volume. That is fine
for the speakerphone or headset, but ridiculous for normal up-to-ear
use. I don't know what they were thinking with that move.
The headset that comes with the phone is the cheap earbud, not the nicer
(but easily breakable) boom version that came with the 6200.
It does not come with "Ring Ring" as one of the ring tones -- it only
has musical tones. Once PC Suite is out I hope to be able to download a
tone that actually sounds like a phone.
Comes with three games that I have not tried yet.
The phone is $150, but I convinced AT&T to give me a $100 credit because
I am a long term customer, and deeply unhappy with GSM, and ready to
take my phone number elsewhere. There is also a $50 Nokia rebate, so the
phone was free.

Re: Nokia 6560 First Impressions
How did you get them to give you a discount?

Have you tried asking customer service? With number portability just
around the corner, the cell phone providers are anxious to keep
customers. All you need to do is call and ask about a discount,
suggesting that you are looking at changing providers in a couple of
weeks...

Right -- the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Basically I just asked for a
discount. I of course had to agree to a contract extension. There is a
$75 instant rebate on the 6560 available for new customers (in addition
to the Nokia $50 mail-in rebate). It shouldn't be difficult to convince
them to at least give you that as a current customer. Whether you can
get $25 more out of them probably depends on who you talk to. If they
don't give it to you, you could always call back and try the next
representative.
Giving you a $100 credit to keep your $xx/month coming in for the next
year or two is a no-brainer for them.

Re: Nokia 6560 First Impressions
Regarding PC Suite, I noticed on the NokiaUsa site that the
6610 is listed. The 6610 looks identical to the 6560 - I
wonder if that version would work? Just a thought...

I hadn't seen that one -- it does look identical to the 6560, but GSM
version.
It uses the same version of PC Suite that the 6200 does though, which I
have already tried. Thanks for the suggestion though.
