does anyone know if sprint is going to implement 3g anytime soon in
anchorage alaska? I have sprint pcs, and it works here fine, albeit 2g
digital (bill says roaming, but there is a roaming agreement between spcs
and ACS wireless? i think) I am in the USAF and I have been here for a
little over a year now. I have never been charged extra for service here.
Sprint tells everyone that there is no service here, but they dont take the
time to check their CDMA roaming map. Anchorage and a few surrounding areas
have coverage off of 3 or 4 towers.

CDMA roaming? If you're roaming, Sprint has no control over whether the
towers are 3G. Can you clarify what you're asking? Is the coverage native
Sprint coverage?

Re: 3g in Anchorage Alaska
The Sprint PCS network does not currently extend into Alaska.
That you can roam in Alaska is nice. Hopefully Sprint PCS will launch
service at least in the capitol and the biggest cities soon.

Re: 3g in Anchorage Alaska
I've been to Anchorage and down to the Seward. Had regular service
in Anchorage but when I got out of Anchorage went into roaming mode.
Things were semi-okay. The one scarey thing was taking the pipeline
road and there not being cell service roaming or otherwise.

Re: 3g in Anchorage Alaska
No, I don't think the coverage is native SPCS, although my phone says
sprint; I keep it in sprint only all the time and have no problems using it
other than *2, *3, *4 and vision don't work. I have used 4 different phones
(a500, 8100, 4500, denso...something-or-other) and all do the same.

Re: 3g in Anchorage Alaska
Currently all Sprint PCS phones, if they get a signal in Alaska,
would be roaming. There currently is no Sprint PCS service in Alaska.

Re: 3g in Anchorage Alaska
It is not roaming yet it is not Sprint either. The phone does say Sprint PCS
althoug. I burnt a few hundred minutes up there in July.

According the Sprint PCS site, you're right (you can look up coverage by
state). There's also none in Montana. Are those the only two
*completely* uncovered states?

So when SprintPCS refers to its Network as Nationwide, they are being a
bit untruthful then.

It's Nation wide (as in left to right),
but not Nation tall (as in bottom to top). :-)
