price plans

I haven't paid much attention to the plans lately, but I thought I read on
this newsgroup that new plans were coming out today? The plans look the
same to me, other than the 7 pm add-on option. Am I missing something?

Currently I'm on the old $30, 300 anytime, unlimited N/W plan with free
PCS-PCS with my two year contract. I was hoping to see something more
competitive on the lower end like t-mobile and attws, such as $40 price for
600 mins, plus unlimited N/W.

Another quick question: I currently have the Sanyo 4900. I'm very happy
with the phone's performance but I'm kind of in the need for something a
little smaller. If you had to choose between the Sanyo 8100 and the VGA1000
which would you get? I don't care who has the better camera because I
wouldn't use it much. Only worried about the performance of the phone, ease
of use, etc. It appears I can get either phone for free (after rebate) from
amazon.com if I renew my contract, OR I can get either phone for $99
(instant rebates) if I were to purchase at Radio Shack. Will I save myself
frustration and headaches if I just coughed up the $99 and went with Radio
Shack, or is amazon.com a good route to go? I've never used them before for
any purchases.

You are correct. There has been no change to the base price plans the last
month, other than the add-ons. That may change with the advent of Nov. 24.
Also if you are off contract, you might be offered more minutes under a
Retention plan if you asked.

The VGA1000 just went on sale at 2 for $149 after rebate. With SprintPCS
picture phones you'd want 2, as you can only send pictures from SprintPCS
phones to other SprintPCS picture phones. Free from Amazon sure sounds good to
me. You can't just email picture phone pictures from SprintPCS phones to
anyone, as you can with Verizon picture phones. Verizon just dropped the prices
on some of its phones, and maybe thats where price competition will start, as
its easier to turn off when new phones come out.

I am getting ready to complete year one of a two year agreement. I don't
mind extending or resetting my two year agreement if the price is right.
The problem, as I see it, is if I purchase and activate a new phone, I'll
have to sign a new contract. Since Sprint isn't offering me a plan like I
was hoping for (600 anytime, unlimited N/W for around $40) I'd have to
settle for the closest thing to what I have now, which would be 300 anytime
minutes and unlimited night and weekends for $35. I would also want the 7pm
nights, so that's another $5. So, effectively I'd go from $30 for 300
minutes, to $40 for 300 minutes. Will they give me 7pm nights with a
renewed contract?

I really don't care about the camera on either phone, or whether I can or
cannot mail the pictures (although that would be nice). I'm just want a
decent flip phone, and I've never really cared for the A460 or A500.

If you don't travel much you might want to get the area wide plan, its $45
for 1000 any, UN&W. You can then add Pcs2pcs or 7pm if you want for the
additional cost.

I've thought about going that direction. The only thing that stops me is
that I live in Texas and have family in Wisconsin, so anytime that I go
home, I wouldn't be able to use my phone, even though there would be ample
coverage under Sprint, it just wouldn't cover me without roaming charges.
This would only be two or three times per year, but it would still irritate
me. I've thought about picking up a prepaid phone for the couple times per
year that I go home, but would rather not do that. I may end up on this
plan, but would prefer to stay on a national plan.

For a new 2-year contract, we'd tack on the 7PM option to=20
almost any plan out there that we've ever offered. But it=20
would still be an extra $5/month for it.

The Sanyo 8100, by far. I had a Sanyo 8100 before upgrading to the
SCP-5400 this past Sunday, and during my having the 8100, I also tried a
VGA1000 for a little while, and didn't like it.

For starters, aside from the camera, the VGA1000 isn't worth the price.
The camera is a little better, but the phone itself smacks of
cheapness. Also, signal performance was pretty bad, as was the sound
quality coming from the earpiece. The Sanyo 8100 beats the VGA1000 in
just about everything but the camera.

How does the 5400 perform. Any problems, advise, etc. I tried one in
the store and looked and sounded really good, but they always do in
the store.
I see in your post that you too, think the sanyo's work better than
the others--

Thanks for the recommendation Isaiah. Truthfully, I've been leaning towards
the 8100, but like that the 1000 was a little slimmer, and was sort of
looking for someone to persuade me into going with Samsung over Sanyo.
Since I really don't care about the camera on either phone, it sounds like I
should stick with Sanyo. Got any advice about where to purchase? Have you
ever purchased a phone through amazon.com ?
