My plan still has wireless web and my new phone has vision. I don't want
vision - I just want the wireless web I always had. I set the modem up for
use with wireless web (#2932, username/password Web) but it doesn't connect.
Suggestions or comments?
thanks.

I don't know if Wireless Web is supposed to work with Vision phones.
Why don't you want to use Vision for this, is it the $15 versus $5 per month?
If so, don't get the Vision pack, just pay the ala cart price, $0.01 per kilobyte.

Wireless Web is not available via the Vision phones.

Spring for the Vision. It does not use minutes (WW does), and WW is not
compatible in any way shape or form with Vision phones. It simply will not
work.

It sounds like he primarily uses WW for laptop/computer connectivity
which, of course, is not permitted with Vision. In the short run, if
you need WW, you might have to get rid of your Vision phone and buy a
used Sprint phone that supports WW. Lots of them on ebay...
WW is SPCS' only cost-effective, reasonably-priced means for computer
connectivity. Sadly, I'm finding it more and more difficult to use WW
for laptop connectivity. The slow speed of WW makes it very difficult
to browse websites and receive email loaded with HTML and graphics.
I'm always hopeful that SPCS will change this foolish policy of
prohibiting laptop use with Vision, and adopt a policy similar to
Verizon's. It could happen. It looks like they've dumped one of
their stupid policies and will be offering Motorola phones again in
the near future. However, reversing two stupid policies may be too
much to ask.

Re: wireless web on a vision phone?
Sprint PCS does not prohibit laptop use with Vision. Get a PCMCIA
Connection Card, set up a Connection Card plan, and use Vision on your
laptop all you want. Talk about the right tool for the right job. The
rumor is it even works faster/better.

Re: wireless web on a vision phone?
Sure if you want to pay double what you would for home broadband at a
fraction of the speed. (I get 300k down at home)
One of the reasons I LIKE sprint is that I can pay an extra $15 and get some
remote net access. now if you are a HEAVY and FREQUENT user of wireless net
then OK I agree with you.
but that card is $200 and then $60-$70 a month (I believe you can get it
that low might be more) and its not even unlimited.!!!
That is designed for buisness users. not personal users.
but again I agree heavy users should find something else and sprint should
go after them. they are using way to much of a VERY limited badnwidth.
That is why I am glad that sprint "looks the other way" to casual usage for
those that are respectful of a otherwise very strained and limited system.
As long as they continue this customer oriented thinking I will remain very
happy as a sprint customer.

Heheh, here we go again. That cable does what it claims to=20
do. No fraud there, so SPCS can't force people to stop=20
selling it. What we *can* do, right in our newly published=20
Terms and Conditions, is say:
"Unlimited PCS Vision plans/options are only available with=20
phones or PCS smart phones where the device is not being=20
used as a modem in connection with other equipment (e.g.,=20
computers, PDAs, etc.) through use of connection kits or=20
other phone-to-computer/PDA accessories, or Bluetooth or=20
other wireless technology. Sprint reserves the right to=20
deny or to terminate service without notice for any=20
misuse."
http://www.sprintpcs.com/common/popu...alTermsPrivacy
..html (under the heading "Other Terms Applicable to PCS=20
Vision Usage.")
So, strictly by the book, the only way to use that data=20
cable is to pay a penny per KB of data while using it. And=20
you use Vision while doing that. You *can* use that cable=20
to hook up to, for example, AOL, but then you're in a=20
circuit-switched data call that maxes out at 14.4kBps and=20
charges $0.39/min while you do it.
If you buy that cable, hook up with one of our Vision=20
plans, and then start using it, you're in violation of=20
those T&C's. And we *can* cancel your Vision package on=20
you, and then force *all* your Vision usage to be casual.
That said, though, the only time I've seen it enforced has=20
been for BIG users, gigabytes of data over at least two=20
months. And a bill as high as $4,500 by the time they've=20
been shut down and we in Tier 1 get to tell them the story=20
because Customer Care doesn't want to deal with their=20
yelling anymore
Infrequent or occasionally use, though? So far, though,=20
light users haven't come across my line because of this. =20
But, again, look at the wording above. *Any* of it can get=20
your pack removed. Permanently.

Re: wireless web on a vision phone?
How does one determine how much data has transmitted using vision? Is there
somewhere I can find this out on sprint's website?
Thanks.

Unfortunately ... no, not on SPCS's site. You might be able to check the
total Vision usage on your handset though. For the 5300 & 4900, you would
dial ##786, then OK, then scroll down to save phone #, and click OK. Data
usage will show up on the screen. I'm not sure of the instructions for other
models. If you pass on which model you have, someone can pipe in with the
instructions on how to check that.

Re: wireless web on a vision phone?
I have got a question.
Just over a year ago I signed a 2 year deal with PCS and use a Samsung
A500 phone and get both 200AT minutes and Free Unlimited Vision on the
phone.
I am having some problems with this phone and may need to change it.
That's not my issue though.
I hear that IF I replace my phone with a PPC2003 type, SprintPCS will
likely ADD considerable charges, because ALL PPC based phones are
treated differently because of their additional capabilities. Web
browsing, emailing, file sending receiving etc.
Last I heard the Palm based phones were NOT hit with these sort of
extra charges... IS this still the situation if I buy a new phone wuch
as either say a Treo 600 or a Samsung i500?
Thanks

First off, I believe you meant to say 2000 AT minutes ... . As to any
possible additional charges, have you tried calling CS and see what they
say?

Yes correct 2,000 AT minutes.
Yes I have called several times. Each time the CS people have not got
a clue what I am talking about and inevitably put me on hold and I
eventually get disconected. Sorry to say but there must be high churn
and/or a lack of training amongst the CS staff.
Eventually this afternoon I managed to get another CS person who again
knew nothing about the subject of my question. I had to guide her to
the SprintPCS website which specifically says that ALL MS PPC type
Vision phones will be subject to a possible $30.00 monthly charge is
one uses Vision. CS then told me this meant I could have such a phone
and not use the service and escape the charge. I pointed out that this
was highly unlikley, so I pushed for further research. Well another 20
minutes or so I WAS given the "answer". I am still very unsure this is
the "real" answer, but it has certainly "clarified" my worst fears.
Basically the CS verbally listed ALL the phones which SprintPCS
currently SELL which WILL be hit with the $30.00 pm Fee per phone.
These include NOT ONLY all the MS type PPC phones But ALL the Palm
based phones Samsung i300/i330/i500 Treo 600/300 and many others I
didn't write down.
Given that all phones are becoming smarter it looks as though my
choice of phones for my "Unlimited Vision" part of my contract with
PCS is dwindlying fast. If I am to continue with my all I can eat
Vision current service which i use on my current A500 (for checking
several websites and receiving some text messages etc) when I am away
from a desktop.
Sounds like PCS are continuing to redefine their PAY for Vision
services in a hurry even for relatively casual users of the newer
ranges of phones.
