Porting question

If I have my home number ported to my cell phone, do I have to change the
cell number to the home number, or will I be able to use both numbers for
calls to my cell phone? Also, can I then discontinue service at home, and
still have the home number ported?

You would contact your cellular carrier, and they arrange for porting the home
number to the cell, which would then have your "former" home number as the cell
number. At such time as your home number is "given" over to the cell company,
your home service would be cancelled.

Swapping the two numbers if possible likely would require the cell company to
be the same as the landline.

As to your last question, yes ... you can, but contact SPCS first to start
the transfer before you cancel your home LL number.

As to your first question, I don't believe you can have both phone numbers
on your cell phone.

Well... you can have the number "take over" one you've=20
already got, or, if your carrier allows (I presume SPCS=20
from the one newsgroup to which this is posted?), you can=20
set it up on a whole new subscription. But...

No, you can only have one number on a cell phone. Days of=20
dual-NAM appear to be long gone. Once you port a home line=20
over to cellular, it ceases to be a landline number.

Do NOT cancel service on a number you intend to transfer=20
over. THE MOMENT you give permission to cancel service,=20
that number is no longer yours to port. The port attempt=20
will fail *and* it will no longer be available to try=20
again.

From what I've heard, you will ONLY be able to use the ported number,
and your old cell number will no longer work.

No. Your old account MUST be active when you port your number.
Canceling the old service is part of the WLNP process, so when it's
complete, your landline will be disconnected and your cell phone will
take all calls.
