Just how portable is a Sprint PCS phone number?
My current Sprint PCS contract has expired. If I get a new Sprint phone,
with associated new user discounts, can I transfer my cell number to the new
contract?
Thanks

You'd have to get a new line.
Then maybe you could cajole them into swapping numbers, but they'll
likely just tell you to an ESN swap.
May a SprintPCS employee knows a way around your issue. I don't.

Of course you can... you just sign a new contract on your present
account. There is no "porting" it anywhere, since you're sticking with
Sprint.
And if you move to another carrier, it's just as portable as any other
carrier's number.

Yup, your old phone is deactivated and the new becomes active. I do it
all the time when I upgrade phones.
You can then either store the old phone as a backup, toss it (or I
recommend taking the phone to a Best Buy where they have recycling
programs for the materials inside of them), or eBay it to someone else
who wants a phone on the cheap. Just make sure you wipe out your
phoebook entries and such before giving it to someone else.
