    I'm reaching the end of my contract in two weeks.

    I'm on a retention plan that gives me 750 a/t, some ungodly
    amount of n/w, and I pay $10 extra for the Vision unlimited,
    coming to a total of $59 (after taxes) per month.

    Now, the _main_ reason I've stuck it out this long
    is that I occasionally work from the road, using my
    laptop, transferring up to 10 Megabytes of data per night.
    (usually only about 5 Meg)
    For that, Vision has been a godsend with its speed...

    Is it really worth all the phuk'n hassles of Sprint to stay?
    Is anyone else offering affordable high speed internet access?

    What retention plans are people getting these days?
    We had a Cingular rep at work offering anyone
    in the company 1200 a/t minute plans for $39/mo.
    After telling that to a retention rep I got, she offered me 800 a/t for $39.
    I actually laughed out loud...; couldn't help myself.

    So what's out there?

    That's a pretty good price for the amount of AT and N&W minutes ...

    What hassles are you talking about?

    The thing you need to look at first and foremost is coverage, because if you
    don't have the coverage for the areas you travel, what good is a good priced
    plan? Next, is what other options are available with the other providers.
    Can they provide similar options, with similar coverage? If so, then it's
    time to look around.

    The whole deal is, what company is going to fill your needs the best. Price
    is something to look at, but it's not the first thing to look at, when
    understanding what your needs are.

    You've never been bothered by Sprint using that amount of data? I'm
    guessing that you are using a data cable? I am asking because I try to
    gauge what I use on others experiences.

    There have literally been *****loads* of hassles.
    I'm not gonna start another sprint gripe session, but suffice to say
    there have been what *I* onsider huge amounts of hassles to include
    suddenly dropping services from my plan without notice or action on
    my part, payments not being credited even though they can "see" them
    being made, outright _lies_ about services and my plan, cancelling my
    account without my involvement, taking five days to re-create it, and on and on...

    Even close in price would be okay...
    If the phone service and customer service was good, I'd even pay more.
    To be frank, I can't believe sprint has survived with how poor they treat people.
    But they *DO* hve good plans...

    Yes, I'm using a data cable.
    Sanyo 4900 and Linux on my laptop.
    (works from windows, too)
    I don't do it often, but I have been doing it for a year now.
    I have seen where others have been caught
    and charged, but so far it hasn't happened to me.

    You are getting 750 minutes for $49 plus $10 for Vision, and were
    offered 800 for 39, (also plus 10 for Vision?), (how many n&w?), (how
    many n&w do you use?) Sounds like 50 more minutes for 10 dollars less
    and you laugh?

    I'm in the same boat as you, Sprint can be a hassle, but most are.
    I've been checking around and I'm hesitant to lose my internet
    connection, seeing as it's my only. I kinda wish the phone could be
    charged while connected, seems a little dumb to me.
    I consistently connect at 230400 and get downloads anywhere from 12 -
    19 K/sec, and I haven't hear of anyone on any other provider get close
    to date, so you may want to do as I plan to and stay (but those
    bastards better give me the new 7pm start time for free minutes like
    the new customers). And they better not mess with my access either,
    they bragged about the laptop connection to get me to join so they're
    most certainly not going to threaten me about the data cable use

    There are a few articles on the net about hacking a
    cable to allow charging from the USB port while in use.
    I never got that far, though...
    This was for the 4900, though.
    Is that what you're using?

    Can other phones be used the same way?
    (data cable and *777)
    What phones? Does anyone know or have first hand experience?

    Yeah, they lied to me outright, as well.
    In fact, it was the only reason I chose the phone and stayed with
    them, back then.
    They told me I could transfer my contacts over to the
    phone with the *SUPPLIED* data cable, and also told me
    I could connect to the internet with the phone and cable.
    I was very specific when I asked about both.

    By chance, I actually recorded the conversation by accident.

    They did everything but come out and call me a liar until I played
    the recorded conversation back to them, complete with the rep's
    name...

    I later bought the cable at Radio Shack, and felt absolutely ZERO
    remorse for skirting the system, due to their lack of concern for
    phukking me.

    Over the last two years, they've caused me great amounts of heartburn,
    but
    alas, right now it seems if they are still the ones with the best
    options...

    I guess it's all down to a few perks added on now.

    I'll hafta take my laptop to the store and see if I can connect with
    one of the newer phones.

    LOL~!
    Well, this was at work, the day after we installed a new phone
    system that lets you record calls for customer service stuff,
    and I was exploring the system while speaking to them and
    unknowingly/absent-mindedly clicked on an icon that started the
    process.

    Didn't *mean* for it to start recording, but was
    happily amused when we saw that it had later on.
    (it stored the recordings to hard drive)

    Bottom line is I got lucky, and got them to eat their words, but in
    the
    end it didn't do squat for me except get me 3 months of Vision for
    free.

    If you have a sanyo phone, and possibly others, you can find cables on
    ebay which charge with f rom the usb port, also, sanyo and possibly
    others has the desktop charger (oem) which will charge and connet at
    the same time.

    Hmm . . .my Sanyo 1800 is sitting on the end table right now connected "AND"
    charging! I do this 4 or 5 times a week.

    In our case it's "NO" ...

    We had been with SprintPCS since 1998. All went well until we hit
    problems. Before July last year, we had a $50 grandfathered/retention
    plan that gave us 500 min. + 500 min. retenion add-on w/free unlimited
    PCS-PCS, and unlimited N&W. Since it's a share plan among 3 phones,
    it added $30 to the plan. We paid $80 for all above. When my son
    graduated from college and moved back to town in July, he went to a
    Sprint store to change the number back to local number. The CR in the
    Store told him the change would not affect the contract terms and
    expiration date (which stay expired). So he did the number changed.
    When we receive the next bill, shockingly, we found that the contract
    term was changed to $45 plan (500 min)with $5 unlimited PCS-PCS and
    $20/each add-on lines for two lines. So for the identical plan we had
    to pay $10 more. Besides the contract was extended to July xx, 2004.
    It took us 2 months to get all this straight out. But we lost all
    confidence with Sprint.

    In December, when I was able to port my Cingular services to somewhere
    else, I talked to Sprint retention for this matter and asked if they
    would give us one phone upgrade at the price as 'new customer'
    discount. The answer was 'NO'. I talked, as someone suggested here,
    to several retention persons and got the same message back each time.

    So on 12/27 I went to a 3rd party T-Mobile dealer to port my Cingular
    service and all three Sprint lines to T-Mobile. It costed me $35
    activation fee for each line, but the dealer refunded $35 for each
    line. With two one year contracts - $39 and $99 share plan, we got
    four free new phones - 2 Moto V300, 1 Nok 6610 and 1 Samsung V205.
    The porting took about 4 hours to complete. So far we like T-Mobile
    services.

    One thing I do feel releif is that I don't have to deal with the
    phonebook each time I change the phone. I can 'upload' the phonebook
    in the phone memory to the SIM card, insert the SIM card to the new
    phone, and 'download' the phonebook to the phone memory of the new
    phone.

    Look out CDMA providers!!! If you don't take care of your customers,
    you'll start lossing to GSM providers when GSM network is as complete
    as CDMA's.

    Sprint Sucks, as most know. Sprint service sucks, their phone staff
    in India sucks, and their morons in the store locations suck. The
    people at Sprint ripped me off, lied to me, and the list goes on.
    Sprint will burn a customer any chance they can get. They will nickel
    and dime you as long as you have service with them. They are well
    know for putting extra charges on you billing statement and letting
    fight for your money back. I give the way Sprint deals with customers
    a ZERO. SPRINT SUCKS.
