It's going to be time for me very soon, That's right, time to call
retention. I was just wondering what people have been offered lately
from Retention? And what I should reasonably expect to be able to
negotiate for when calling them.
TIA

Michael, what plan are you on now? I ask as my contract is up, but SPCS
can't offer anything better on what I currently have, save for a 5% monthly
credit for reupping for another year.

Currently, I have a plan with my phone & One add a phone, sharing 500 AT
minutes, and 3000 N/W Minutes starting @ 8:00pm. Unlimited PCS to PCS
calling, and the $5.00 WW option.
which AFTER my corporate discount (25%), and AFTER all fees and Taxes,
is coming in at just under $50 a month ( I don't have a bill in front of
me, But it is something like $48.95 or there abouts).

Re: Best retention plans for this time of year?
I can only say what I have here in Seattle which is different from other
parts of the US.
I have been a customer for about 4 years and just signed a two year...I am
not getting anything special as far as I know.
The rebate on the phone I got was $130 and then my plan is $40 a month with
400 anytime minutes, unlimited night and weekends starting at 8pm and free
unlimited pcs to pcs minutes. I also get a 25% business discount so I pay
the $30 a month plus all the BS taxes for about $7

That's a pretty good plan there. I don't think you will be able to get a
better deal.

Re: Best retention plans for this time of year?
Michael,
IMHO, "The times, they are a changin'," in regards to retention with
SprintPCS.
My contract for 4 phones sharing minutes, with a 5 or 6 % corporate
discount, was up in August. And with the family regularly exceeding the
anytime minutes, it was time to evaluate competitors seriously and call
Sprint to get a better deal. When I last renewed in 2002, the retention
group at Sprint definitely wheeled & dealed beyond the published plans to
keep my business. I purposely waited until the holiday season and after
Wireless Local Number Portability took effect in order to get a better deal.
However, much to my surprise, it was a lot different this time. In several
phone calls, I found Sprint not really willing to deal beyond the published
plans. It took me three long phone calls with some amount of threatening to
strike a deal I'm semi-satisfied with.
For me, the anytime minutes at a reasonable cost in the published plans were
not the problem. The biggest sticking point for me was the charge for the
three extra phones. Sprint stuck to $20/phone for the Add-A-Phones for any
plan change, even through I've paid $10/phone for 3 or 4 years and pointed
out my sterling payment history more than once. I'm dead set against paying
$20 for additional phones/lines and was damn close to going through the
hassle of taking my numbers to Cingular or T-Mobile. I finally got someone
on the 3rd call who agreed and set it up with $10/phone for the 3 extra
phones.
I'm now on the $65 plan for 1100 anytime minutes, with 3 Add-A-Phones for an
extra $30. N&W minutes are unlimited, and I committed to the 2 year
agreement and extra $5 for 7:00pm N&W, giving me a $100 monthly total before
the corporate discount. Other than the $10 Add-A-Phone lines, the only deal
I perhaps got was unlimited PCS2PCS, but I'm not sure that couldn't have
been included anyway.
That compares to my 2002 plan of $80 for 800 anytime, 4500 N&W @ 9:00pm, and
500 PCS2PCS.
I also tried for new phones since I was committing to a 2 year agreement,
but they stuck firm on their 18 month rule for new phone rebates. I was SOL
there since I had bought new phones on eBay in the last 9-15 months.
Am I happy with it?.....Ehhh, neither happy or unhappy. I may not have
negotiated the best, but I didn't find a lot of give from Sprint this year.
Ive also been curious what other people have been finding, but it sure
doesn't seem to me that the WLNP or holiday frenzy has caused much in the
way of deals from Sprint.
Good luck.

That's not bad. The plan I am on now is 500 AT, 3000 NW, 2000 PCS2PCS, $5
WW, and it's $40/month (no corporate discounts or anything) before taxes. I
want a new phone, but obviouslly can't upgrade because if I do I'll lose my
plan (or at the very least have to ditch WW and add Vision (adding a total
of $10 to my bill each month). For now I guess I'll be happy with my Sanyo
5150...

Thanks. I'm not expecting the moon and the stars, But I've had service
at least since 96 or 97. i've always had auto Pay set up, and it's
worked fine for me, with my payments always being made on time.
I've always been on a corporate account, with a good business discount
(the 25%)
a good friend of mine Just renegotiated his contract . He told them his
reception was bad and threatned to cancel, even with close to a year
left on his contract, and got a new Sanyo 5300 out of the deal, as well
as a good plan.
Not sure of his minutes, But he got Free Vision for the whole time, I
just found out.
I know his plan is around the same as mine.
Just want to get all my ducks in a row before I call this time.

That is a good plan I would say. However, I have noticed while going
through newspapers from other cities and states that Sprint does not have
the same plan in Rhode Island that they have in Texas or Seattle, etc. Just
depends on where you live.

Nah depends on how nutty the retention person you were dealing was. Lots
of people got some combo of 500 or 650 a/t, 1000 or 3000 n/w, 8 pm, and
then some people got 500 pcs-to-pcs or free WW for $35.99, this was back
when sprint first started with the retention plans. I have 650 a/t.
3000 n/w 8p, and 500 pcs to pcs for $35.99 myself, but I am going to
dump it anyway, I am sick of paying top dollar for new phones

Hi Thunder;
As I look at that I can't help but think that someone at retention did
their homework. It seems to be designed right on the verge where moving to
another carrier would be just short of paying off for the customer. I'm
thinking of T-Mobiles 39.99 for 600 minutes and they're doing that 50
minutes free thing right now, or were just a weeks or so ago.
But a free phone might just make people decide it's worth it to move.
It would be interesting to see a price comparison between staying with that
plan and moving to T-mobile with the free phone vs sprints phone discount
and the mandatory vision inclusion (assuming one kept it). I'm too lazy to
do it now but if anyone feels up to it...

God do I know that feeling SA. I guess I don't understand Sprint's
reasoning on this one. I mean if I leave, something I would rather not do,
but will if the financials are in my favor, they loose out on the two year
contract.
Say for example I eschew sprints 150 rebate on a phone in favor of
receiving a free one through Amazon with another carrier for a two year
commitment.
I get a free phone a two year commitment, keep my phone number, and a
comparable plan.
It's a hassle for me and costly in terms of lack of customer for sprint.
Seems to me it would be cheaper and less hassle for everyone if sprint just
ponied up the same phones amazon is offering for free between the sprint
rebate and the sprint subsidized amazon rebate for new customers to keep
their existing customers. They wouldn't be loosing the entire cost of the
phone, only the difference between the sprint rebate and the sprint
subsidized amazon rebate and the cost of making the offer through Amazon.
Seems to me it would actually cost sprint less to offer it directly to it's
customers then offering it through Amazon.
Anyone have any insight on this that I might be overlooking?

Re: Best retention plans for this time of year?
Well I should say I have had the 650a/t and 3000 n/w, 8pm since may of 02
and out of service agreement or contract since may of 03. At the time I
looked at other carriers and was going to change. So I called sprint to
cancel and this is the plan they shot me for $35 month. So I stayed. Now I'm
waiting to see who the rumored company that the financial papers say that
Cingular is buying out.

I was taking a look at the inquirer earlier today and it looks as though T-
Mobile is the big winner on ported numbers so far.
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=13513
I'll be keeping an eye out for new plans as well.
