Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good way to backup (to a PC)
the phone book data in my Samsung A620 (VGA1000).

I saw a couple of software/cable packages on the web; any suggestions?

Datapilot at $34.95 is an all purpose phone to PC product that seems to
    be folks favorite now.

The current version supports the Samsung A610/VGA1000

USB Cables are available on eBay from a number of Vendors at ~$10

I've been using FutureDial SnapSync ever since Paragon FoneSync went out
of business. I've used SnapSync with 5 different model handsets
    (Samsung 3500, A460, A620, A660, Sanyo 8100). It's OK, and can make a
basic backup of your handset's phonebook, or transfer it between
handsets, but it's lacking in several areas. It does not store several
phonebook fields that the handset does, such as slot number (which on a
Samsung is the same as speed dial position), image, or ringer, and which
of a person's multiple numbers is the default or speed dial number. I
read somewhere that FutureDial has stated that they do not plan to
support those fields, either. It can print the phonebook in seemingly
random order (maybe chronological order of entry?). It can only manage
a handset's phonebook while the handset is connected to the computer,
but you have to be connected even to view or edit a previously saved
file of a phonebook (!). I don't use Outlook, so I have never tried its
    Outlook synchronization.

    I haven't tried Susteen's Datapilot yet.
