Sanyo SCP-8100

I am wanting to use my Sanyo phone on a different network/wireless company
and I am told that I would have to get a newe simm card for this. Could
someone please tell me how to go about this and how to unlock this phone and
any other information that might be pertinent? Thank you.

On GSM networks, SIM cards (Subscriber Identity Module) are used to keep
subscription information, along with phone book and other data seperate
from the phone itself. Your Sanyo SCP-8100 is not a GSM phone and Sprint
is not a GSM carrier. Even if they were, it generally isn't as simple as
just switching cards, as you often have SIM locks on handsets to protect
carriers who subsidize phones. There is an upgrade path called R-UIM for
Sprint and other CDMA carriers to follow to add this functionality,
however no US CDMA is supporting it at this time. Nokia is the only CDMA
phone manufacturer adding R-UIM support to their handsets, but it is
disabled at this time. If you move to another carrier, you will need a
new phone. If you move to a GSM carrier and aquire GSM service, you
_may_ be able to move that phone to a different GSM carrier. You'll need
to unlock your handset before doing so. I've seen the most information
on unlocking Nokia, Sony-Ericsson and Motorola handsets. If you have
interest in moving phones, look into unlocking the handsets you're
interested in before you buy.

Good answer Mike, but methinks you built the proverbial Grandfather clock,
when all one asked for was the time ... .

The quick answer Michelle is that Sanyo phones don't have sim chips, and
won't work on GSM systems. You will need to buy a new phone for the new
carrier.
