Sanyo 4920 self-switching to "auto" roam??

This is a bit to strange to think about, but I know that I had
my and my wife's 4920's set under "roaming" to "SPCS only".

After a recent PRL update I noticed that it was set to "auto",
and I figured the update had something to do with that.

I'm in NYC, which is relevant.

Today I was on the subway, and at one point my phone rang,
which is a bit unusual. Screen said "digital roaming". I was pulling
out of the station, so I lost the signal right away.

When I looked at my settings, I was set to "auto". I met my
wife a short while later, and her phone was set to "auto" as well.

The reason I keep the phone on "SPCS Only" is that I don't
want to get hit with roaming charges under exactly these conditions.
I'd rather miss the call and have a message waiting when I'm above
ground.

I hope I'm not billed for roaming charges that I'll have to
dispute, but more than that, I really hope that the Sanyo 4920 does
not automatically reset itself to roam!

I've had my 4920 since about October and I've had to mysteriously put my
phone back to no roaming twice since then. I didn't pay too much attention
but I too do not want roaming charges either. I'm with DGI. I know it's
not anything i'm doing.

My 4920 defaults to Automatic roaming and PSC Vision enabled after a
reboot no matter what the previous settings were. These are two
negative features to an otherwise great phone. I usually leave my
phone on 24/7 so it's not a big deal but if I do switch it off for any
reason the first thing I do upon rebooting is to disable PCS Vision
since I don't have that plan and the Web button is too easy to
accidentally trip. The roaming setting isn't something I worry about
since I have F&CA.

Actually, I leave mine on 24/7 as well. The only thing I do
frequently is turn off all ringers. I'll have to test to see if that
has any effect.

David, either call SPCS or go online onto your account, and add the $5/mo.
FC & A option to your account. It will cover all phones on the account, and
allow for up to 50% of the monthly minutes used on roaming.

I'm aware of that option, but I don't need it. There's no need
for me to roam at all. All of my work is in NYC and other major
cities, and in seven years of using SPCS I've only needed to roam
twice. The one time that I was working in a roam-only area for a week
I purchased a $10 add-on and deleted it after the job was over.

I don't ever need to roam in NYC, naturally, but when one goes
into the subway, if the phone is set to auto, during the transition
between no signal and full Sprint digital, the phone wastes battery
power passing through the roaming range. And if you receive a call at
that moment you're charged at roaming rates (whereas a second or two
later, when you access full digital, you receive the call without
roaming). So roaming would be an unnecessary and unwanted expense for
me.
