Hello, I currently have a Sprint family plan and an older Sanyo cell
phone, model SCP-4700. The phone is on it's last leg and I'll need a new one
soon that will work with Sprint. I'm in the Navy and looking for a phone
that has great signal gain. When we go to sea, I want a phone that will hold
the call as far out as possible. Any suggestions on which phone this would
be or how to research it would be most appreciated. Thanks. Randy

The Sanyo 4920 is the most similar replacement option but I hear that a
new 4930 is coming soon. Even so I don't think these have quite the
same quality as the older 4700/4900 series.

My understanding is that the 4930, or whatever it's gonna be called,
will be a "rubberized" version of the 4920.

    Could be just a rumor.

My mm-7400 gets great reception. Much better than my last 3 Sprint phones.

The downside is that it's no longer available.

How can you tell which phone gets the best reception? I'm sure there's
some kind of rating that indicates that quality on the phone.... Thanks,

    Not yet.

If a phone, with "the best" reception were available, you can bet
that tens of thousands of people would be carrying it.

You should try the Motorola V60V. I have this phone and it is great in the
    reception department.

Re: Cell phone with the best gain/reception is???

I've never seen anyone post anything other than subjective comments, such as
".....my new xxxxx has great reception", or " this xxxx is way better than
    my last phone".
I wonder why some company like Sanyo doesn't set up a test room on an
island, or in the desert to see exactly which of their phones actually are
better at holding a call, and how they stack up against the competition.
Meaningful and reliable test results would result in a bonanza of sales for
the winning phones, since many people consider their reception a top
priority; more important than camera or online features.
My guess, judging from postings on these boards, is that there is quite a
bit of variability between phones, even of the same model. The companies
don't make money by making the phone reception work well, since any given
model isn't out on the market long enough to develop a reputation, and the
companies are pushing those features like vision and multi-media that make
    them extra money in subscriptions.
Maybe someone on here knows about the rusults of a shootout.
