Anyone know an inexpensive online battery store?

My Sanyo 8100 battery is shot. I'm vacillating between buying a new
battery or a new phone. Anyone know where I can get a battery for my
8100 for under $20 that won't explode in my pocket?

I haven't heard of any non-oem Sanyo batteries that have had problems. Those
previously reported battery phones were for mostly Nokias and some
Motorolas, IIRC.

I've also bought from

where they have all 3 colors of a thicker, extended-life 1600mah battery
for $25 each. Low prices, but more obscure customer service than above
(if there's a problem).

As much as I despise Ebay, I did find a brand new battery for my 5 year
old phone on it.

If it's not on that thing, it probably doesn't exist anymore.

I bought from factorydirectcellular.com one time. Everything was ok
except that the first battery they sent wouldn't work because poor fit
(bad workmanship) made it hard to keep it connected. The exchange was
quick and ok except that I had to pay to send the bad battery back.

For what its worth, the 8100 extended life batteries are clearance at
most RadioShacks for $39

I bought a battery for $10 on ebay. I'll let everyone know how it goes
- that is if they have internet at the burn unit

You also have to be wary of the mAh rating of the batteries. I wanted to
buy an extended battery for my Treo 650 and came upon an online Ebay
"store."

The store had three batteries for my phone, listed below in increasing
order, by price:
* A non-OEM 1400mAh battery.

* An "OEM" Treo battery (no mAh mentioned).

* An item labeled "FOR PALM SMARTPHONE TREO 650 EXTENDED BATTERY -
1700mAh."

OK, so I figured the OEM battery must 1400mAh, since who the heck would
want a less-powerful battery--and obviously a battery listed as an
"EXTENDED BATTERY" must have more capacity than OEM.

Still, I took out my Treo's battery and could find nothing about its
mAh. So I checked the manual: no mention of it there either. But its
"specifications" state that it has "up to 4.5 hours talk time." I could
find nothing about mAh on Palm's Website either--at least not with my
searches.

Then I checked the Web store's description for the 1700mAh battery and
saw its talk time listed as "up to 5-6 hours of talk time." Seemed like
an extended battery to me so I bought it. [Note: CDMA Treo's consume
more power than GSM versions.]

Was it an extended battery? NO! The Treo 650's OEM battery is actually
1800mAh. I might be mistaken on this, but the OEM battery is also 3.7v
whereas this so-called "extended" battery's is 3.6v. At 3.6v it means
the battery has even less capacity than a 3.7v 1700mAh battery.

In other words, I didn't buy an extended battery at all. Based on the
Engrish text on the battery--FOR PAL TR 650--I'd say it's closer to an
IED (why not write "FOR TREO 650?").

Anyway, I filed a complaint with Ebay, and the CC processing company
used for the transaction (buySAFE.com) and the charge was reversed
(including shipping).

In my case the seller claimed he did no wrong at all--and practically
threatened me for filing a complaint. Ebay's "SafeHarbour" did nothing
but send an incorrect (canned) reply; and the seller is still selling
the same crap. I noted in my complaint the possible danger with
rechargeable lithium ion batteries, and that after the--IMO--blatant
misrepresentation by the seller I thought using the battery even as a
spare would not do from a safety standpoint.

It's also amazing that Ebay seemingly lets these people get away with
selling items at low cost, only to make it up on shipping. They do this
because Ebay charges commission based on the selling price, not on
shipping. The same Ebay seller I dealt with had a few small items for
$0.49--plus $9.99 shipping.

Make no mistake, I should have read more about this seller, and
researched the OEM battery a little more. But at the time I couldn't
find the info on Palm's Website. (Finally found it on Treocentral.) And
this seller had/has a 98% positive feedback score. But had I checked
that in more detail, I would have seen that that translated into 3,257
negative and 3,073 neutral feedback comments over the last 12
months--and some of the "positive" feedback wasn't exactly positive.

Oh, for the record, the Ebay seller in question is Eforcity Corporation.
The Hotsync button on the cradle I bought (at the same time as the
battery) has already stopped working. Buy at your own risk.
