Hey ****-stain, I don't care what you are here for. But when the first
post I read from you was an idiotically incorrect attack on me then...
yea, I'm gonna be wary of any of your claims. Perhaps you should go back
and reread your first post in the "phone as modem" thread.

Priceless. Let's throw out all product details and for now on speak in
vague, generic, generalities. I mean, who cares about facts?

Oh, I see. Because you posted in a format unwelcome in the Usenet
groups and were rightfully called down on it, you decided to have a
vendetta against comments I put out. So be it. This is why there is
the ignore option, so that when I find someone that I simply think is an
arrogant ass, I have the pleasure of ignoring their posts. It just
saves me time from reading spam.

Please tell me you aren't really that stupid. Read that thread
again--read Bob Smith's reply to you for crying out loud. I realize your
ability to follow threading is "challenged," but perhaps with a little
effort you might actually comprehend what went on, and just how wrong
you were. Hope you can do it...

OK, so much for the hope. Apparently you really are that stupid. But I
do applaud your "spam" fighting ability. You go girl!

Re: TREO 650 or Blackberry 7250 for Sprint?
I had a BB and I think the model was the 7510 and other than the cool factor
I hated it. It broke twice in a meer four months, both warranty repairs but
Nextel wanted me to pay for repairs. The first was the DC button stopped
working after only one month of minimal use and the second was the screen
blanked out. The device worked fine other than I couldn't see what I was
doing on it. I couldn't find any decent, reasonably priced software for it
also. Now I have a Samsung i500 and I love it. I bought it back in February
of 04 so I could leave my VCR-like Tungsten C home when I'm on my motorcycle
and I just exchanged it for a new one due to the writing area being worn
away. After the holidays I plan on buying a Treo 650 and saving the i500 as
a backup phone in case the Treo needs repair.

Re: TREO 650 or Blackberry 7250 for Sprint?
Thanks for this info, when I get my Treo 650 I'll be sure to check it out.
On my i500 I have snappermail and have it set right now to download every
two hours from noon to eight pm so I don't really need it that bad but I'm
always looking for newer and better.

Re: TREO 650 or Blackberry 7250 for Sprint?
>Should I assume that you are running Big Clock on a Sprint Treo 650?
I have it installed on the Treo 600 and the Treo 650.
I carry the 600 when I carry one ot the Treo's because I prefer the 600
to the 650.
I have not had the reboot problem with Big Clock on the 600 or the 650,
but it really doesn't suprise me that you are having it. I have had
some other dopey behavior on the 650 that nobody else has experienced.
I think they did away with the Treo 600 too quickly. That was where
the Treo hit it's peak, IMHO, and like I have stated before, while I
think it is superior to a Blackberry, the Treo 650 was a step back from
the 600.
Nonetheless, there are about 20 "alarm clock" apps for the Treo besides
my favorite ... Big Clock. One of them should work for you, and it
shouldn't take you anywhere near a year to find any of them.

Unless of course you need Bluetooth or a high-res (320x320) screen.

Re: TREO 650 or Blackberry 7250 for Sprint?

True. It has those two things going for it, but otherwise I find it
less responsive and lacking memory.
Honestly, the screen resolution isn't a big deal for me because the
camera is pretty rudimentary, and I don't do alot of image viewing.
Phone Calling, Email and SMS is my main thing with the Treo. The 650's
screen does look better, but as a text messaging/phone solution ... I
feel it slipped behind.
I cannot even get callfilter to work correctly on the 650, and that is
more or less the "killer app" for the Treo, IMHO.

Re: TREO 650 or Blackberry 7250 for Sprint?
>Which call filter are you referring too?
It is a program called callfilter which will handle any call from any
number differently.
Ie. Calls from blocked numbers will be picked up and hung up on,
certain groups will go directly to voicemail wihtout ringing the phone,
certain ones will ring through to your phone. And this can all be
configured to be done by time of day.
It is indespensible. Anyone not in my contact list will have the call
drop. As far as they know, the phone doesn't exist. When you call a
business, you establish a "business relationship" which lets them call
you back. And if you call an 800 number, your cell number is in that
database for life.
With my 600, I don't fear calling anyone and getting sales calls back,
because their calls simply drop off of the map and don't bother me. I
get off the lists really fast. And if someone pisses me off, I don't
have to change my number. I just remove them from my contact list and
*poof* they are gone ... never again to be head from (at least on my
cellphone).
This is an indespensible app.
I installed it on my 650. I have a Treo 300, 600, 650, and PPC-6700.
I had a Palm VII before the Treo 300, a Palm V before that, and a Palm
III before that. So much for cost effectiveness.
IME, Callfilter is nowhere near as stable on the 650 as it is on the
600, and the little 1 second delay in looking up contacts from the
NVRAM sometimes allows calls to ring through before they drop or go to
voicemail (which ****s up the wrong number in the middle of the night
squashing that 600 can do). I like to leave my phone on near the bed
for emergency calls from people I know, but many years of having the
same number still gets me wrong numbers at 2:00am a couple of times per
week. I think chicks just give out random numbers to dudes in clubs
and chances are eventually it will be yours.
And when I look at the screens side by side, of course the 320x320
screen is prettier than the 160x160. But during the day, I don't sit
there and marvel at the screen. I make calls, text message, and
send/receive email.
I use the Treo as a communicator. I use the PPC as something that I
view pictures and word docs, etc on.
I think the 600 is a superior communicator to the 650 after having used
both quite extensively. The original 5-way nav structure gets me where
I am going faster than the 650's structure, and the 600 is way
snappier.
No bluetooth blows, but the 650's implementation of bluetooth is
something I am not a huge fan of.
They tried to "pretty up" the 600 with the 650, and ended up breaking
some core functionality, useabilty. and speed for little more than a
slightly better screen in my opinion.
The removable battery is not that big of an issue. I have yet to have
the 600 run out during the day ... I think the lowest I have gotten in
24 hours is down to 20% under very heavy use (that low res screen gives
you more time off the charger - which is more important for a
communicator), and a daily hotsync protects you from a hard reset
(which in 2 yearys I have yet to be forced to do outside of a firmware
upgrade). And I am talking about a 2 year old internal battery here.
Not a brand new LiIion which I couldn't drain unless I surfed porn on
Blazer for 16 hours straight in a 1 bar signal strength area, which,
believe me .... I tried to do!
They are both quality phones, and the difference is not super-dramatic.
I wouldn't flush either down the toilet. But when I carry one of my
Treo's, it's usually the 600. I think they hit the sweet spot of
balance there.
I'm sure my opinion will change with the 7xx line.

It sounds like a great program...
Too bad there's no way to incorporate it into regular phones.
