Pre-Owned Phones

I have been preapproved for a pre-owned phone thru Sprint due to the
fact that none of the stores around here are able to upgrade the
software on my phone, a Kyocera 2345. I won't be qualified for any
type of rebate until May 2006, and I was told by a Sprint store manager
that buying a preowned phone will not alter my rebate status; but
another sprint employee told me it would. He said as soon as the ESN
is activated on my account the rebate time period starts over. Does
anyone know what is correct? The phone I was looking at is a Sanyo
VI-2300, it still had the clear plastic covering the screen on it so it
doesn't look like it was ever activated. Not sure what to think, I
would be purchasing this phone at 1/2 the retail price.

Sprint's policy, as far as we know it, is to reset the rebate clock
whenever a never-activated phone is activated.

Actually whenever the ESN is changed the clock resets. We used to do loaner
phones, but I stopped because it would reset the customers clock.

You maybe able to negotioate something with customer service.

Could you elaborate on your comment about being 'pre-approved' for a pre-owned phone? This is a new concept.
I've heard of pre-owned phones but not the approval.

Also, was there a reason they could not upgrade your software?

I think the exception is the fact that the phones were previously activated
under your account. When my daughter's Audiovox phone died, after being
replaced 3 times under warranty, they said we could reactivate an older LG
5350 we had used before and the clock would not be reset.

I believe this is a store to store policy, it's not something you can
get thru customer service. I was pre-approved by a store manager when
I explained to him that I had gone into several stores asking to have
the software upgraded on my Kyocera 2345 and was repeatedly told they
didn't have the ability to update the software on my phone any longer.
I also don't qualify for any type of rebate until May 2006. So then
the manager told me about the pre-owned phone deal and asked me if I
was interested. The pre-owned are 1/2 off the retail and require a new
2 yr. contract. The pre-owned phones are phones that have been
returned within the 14 day trial period and have to be in like-new
condition.
